I think that's like he had to put some money into the card first as collateral right? I don't trust those cards. Do they even help credit score much?

I'm sure they help your credit history. either dude has shyt credit or no credit, thus they are requiring the cash to secure the credit. if his credit history ain't :trash: he only gotta do that for a little while before getting a regular card.

I have the credit karma app on my phone as well. you can check ur credit report for free on that joint.

I have one credit card: 16,000k limit with AAdvantage no job and in college :yeshrug: While all my peers have debits cards. Is this good? I'm not from the usa btw. I've always wondered about this :patrice:

:dahell:

Do you have the same name as your father? Only thing I can think of is that they got someone else's credit info crossed with yours. I've never heard of a college student w/o a job getting a 16k limit. That's insane.

This is very good.. I believe that card has an annual fee. I take it you fly American Airlines at least 3-4 times a year. If you don't fly them at all then maybe you can do a product change to an everyday use type card. But in all you're good. Just use it right and pay in full at the end of the month or if you have a balance pay at least double the minimum.

No annual fee
No foreign exchange rate fees

I fly a good amount.

I got a
25k Amex
About 10k in dept store cards
3k music friends card
5k Mastercard
1.5k bestbuy
6.5k star

About 5 years ago I was almost 15k in debt. I got my first card at 18 and went HAM. I was a stupid lil nikka.
Now I have zero balance and it's staying that way. I use MC/AMEX for the points on my bills and pay it off monthly.
Most important thing to remember is that credit cards ARE NOT a extention of your finances . Its not your money at all. Matter of fact they lose money. If you dont have the money to cover what you are buying you fukking up. I wouldn't even use them in a emergency.
Only REAL reason I see to have a credit card is to build your credit up so you can buy a house in the future.

That's just me tho
My motto: if you can't buy it 3 times don't buy it once

What do u use for emergencies?

I built a nice emergency fund....I went to a couple of financial classes, sat down with some people that showed me how to do it. This lady broke my finances down to the T. She put me on a strict budget and I was so desperate at the time. I was literally going negative every pay check.

First thing she had me do was build up a nice emergency fund, then a savings account and still set it up where I could pay bills.

I can lose my job today and survive for the next year

Who gave you a 16k limit n where do u live

It's not hard to get those limits. Once you start paying bills off, them vultures increase your limit more and more. Sometimes they'll even increase it when you go over to keep you sucked in. Those companies can't lose. They write it off anyway. I had to call star card to tell them not to increase mine.
