Wasn't up to me. At Betterment you just give them money and tell them how aggressive you want to be with it. They do all the allocating for you. Very easy. Not really good if you like being "hands on". But I can't complain about 50% return.

what amount of taxes come out of your return?
can stop investing with them whenever you want and keep the return - taxes?

You pay the taxes whenever you sell.
So you could put money in for 10 years (or longer) and not pay any taxes on the gains (you'd still pay taxes on dividends in the year that you earned them, but it wouldn't be much).
When you go to sell the securities and deposit the gains into your bank account, that's when they cut the tax form.

@BaldingSoHard
so I recently got a new job which mandates that I contribute to the state retirement plan. That's all good but I still have my 401k from my previous job. Do you think I should roll it over to 403b or an ira?

I do not recommend tradeking. They kinda sucked dikk for me. Long story.

Go with Schwab or Ameritrade or one of those other ones that you've heard of. They're pretty much all the same.
I know you said it was a long story...but why not use TradeKing?

Seems like their fees are lower than the rest.

Long and the short of it is they suspended then closed my account (holding onto the money I had with them) without my authorization. I had to jump through a number of hoops to get them to re-open the account. It was a pain in the ass.

I did but I cashed out after this last run up in the market so right now the only thing I'm holding is brk.b and whatever is in my 401(k) and IRA.
I don't remember the symbols, though but I know they were from Vanguard.
