the suns were undefeated in the bubble before CP3 even went over there. i dont know why people are acting like hes the reason theyre balling.

he definitely took them to another level, but hes not even the best player on the team.

This dumb mf really compared 8 games in a bubble to 37 games where the suns have improved in every aspect which is over half the season

Dude act like teams go on winning streaks all the time lol. Hell Houston was on a 6 game winning streak earlier this season I believe.

People see the Suns winning all of a sudden and just give all the credit to CP3. Of course he is helping a lot but the Suns were already heading in this direction. People forget Ayton missed 25 games last year because of suspension then corona shut things down. It was also Montys first year getting everyone adjusted. The record last year does not reflect the actual team.

The corona break was basically a whole new offseason. When the Suns jumped into the bubble, everyone got better. The 8-0 record was not a fluke. The team found it's identity there before CP3. After the bubble the young guys got more time to get better and obviously adding CP3 helped.

I just don't like the narrative that the Suns were this young dumb lottery team until CP3 came and saved the day. Monty Williams and James Jones were already turning the team into a winner.

The bubble was a different set of circumstances and didn’t mean that the success would carry over into next season. Look at Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitchell example. Their bubble success hasn’t carried over into the next season as they are essentially the same players as they were beforehand.

Teams go on winning streaks all the time. Even Sacramento made a playoff run (missed out) and then regressed back to the usual the next. And it’s essentially the same team now as it was then, yet the leap wasn’t sustainable.

CP3 has brought a level of consistency to that franchise and is working wonders (except Ayton) for everyone’s game. He’s doing for them what Jimmy Butler did for Minnesota.

Mvp should go embiid or joking.

I'm not leaving cp3 out but he'd have to have a fantastic 2nd half of the season

Cam Payne reviving his career as a good backup guard started in the bubble. Cam Johnson establishing himself as a quality sf/pf who can defend started in the bubble. Dario Saric changing his role to a center and leading the bench started in the bubble. Mikal Bridges taking his defense to another level started in the bubble. It wasn't a fluke, it was all real, and it carried over into this year.

The bubble Suns were not a Cinderella story. It was a young talented team with a new coach evolving to the next level. I'm telling you as a Suns fan, Monty changed the culture. Look at Rubio on the Suns compared to Rubio on the Wolves. Look at Oubre on the Suns compared to Oubre with the Warriors. Monty's culture and system makes players better.

The Suns would have been a playoff team(6-8th seed) this year even without CP3 but I do give credit to CP3 for pushing them to a top seed in the west.

And that is the narrative for him to be in the MVP conversation. An organic narrative that is not manufactured by the media. That's what the criteria for an MVP should be. You mention the bubble all you want, but the discussion about the Phoenix Suns prior to that was they were a laughing stock organization that couldn't do anything right. He deserved mention last year for what he did in OKC, yet couldn't even mentioned in the conversation at all. He's helped change the narrative about both teams.

If Tom Thibodeau can be in the coach of the year discussion for changing the trajectory of an organization, then why can't Chris Paul be in the MVP discussion as well? This is not the same Suns team that was in the bubble and even you know that. They are on a completely different level because of CP3. That's what an MVP does.

My point is, CP3 is a big reason for the Suns current success, but he's not the savior. The Suns were always headed in this direction with Monty and James Jones. That's why CP3 pushed for the trade. He saw where the team was going after the bubble.

There's a lot of young talent on the Suns that was growing fast even before CP3 joined. He just helped speed up the process. He's a great addition to the Suns but he's not completely carrying the team like other MVP candidates.

Monty Williams establishing a new culture in Phoenix helps. James Jones putting together one of the best benches in the league helps. Devin Booker being a rising star helps. It's a complete team effort along with Chris Paul and his greatness.
