260 workers test positive for COVID-19 at a Central Florida airport
2,993 people have died from COVID-19 in the state

Gov. Ron DeSantis says the state has to continue to protect the older community in Florida amid the COVID-19 pandemic. (WKMG)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis said 260 workers at a Central Florida airport have tested positive for the coronavirus after nearly 500 employees were tested.

He did not share which airport it was.

“[An]Airport in Central Florida had a couple of cases, they did the contract tracing. They looked [at] almost 500 workers [and] 260 people working close together were positive, 52 percent positivity rate on that one,” DeSantis said.

More than 2,780 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Florida on Tuesday.

The state reports more than 80,100 people have tested positive from COVID-19 and 2,993 people have died from coronavirus.

The Florida Department of Health reports 5.5 percent of people taking a COVID-19 test have tested positive for the virus.

Gov. DeSantis said this month around 30,000 COVID-19 test results are coming back each day.

The percentage of people testing positive for the virus has gone up since May 17.

Dr. Raul Pino with the Department of Health said coronavirus cases in Orange County are up 202 percent from the week before.

The amount of COVID-19 ICU hospitalizations is down 43 percent from April 15, according to Gov. DeSantis.

DeSantis also said the amount of people on ventilators who have tested positive for the virus is down 56 percent from April 15.

In Orange County, Dr. Pino said six people were on ventilators and 70 people were hospitalized outside of the intensive care unit.

The median age for people testing positive for COVID-19 is 46.

Eighty-six percent of COVID-19 related deaths in Florida have occurred in the age group of 65 and older, according to DeSantis.

He also said there have been more COVID-19 related fatalities over the age of 90 than under the age of 65.

However long. I mean I know there's obvious differences, one mentioned earlier in the thread being they don't gene edit themselves and that's why the mutations are so nasty, but as long as a virus has bodies to live off it's still perpetuating itself. You know?

I've talked with a biologist/ chemist friend about the difference between dead and living matter and he's the one that told me viruses are in a weird liminal state. They're neither. It's weird. I've been interested in this concept for a while.

I'm a low key animist that believes every atom in the universe is alive so I'm a little biased.

I feel you. But there is a hard line rule in biology of what constitutes something as living. As far as reproduction goes they can't make a copy of themselves and split like bacteria or have sex and reproduce like mammals.

They depend on the organelles of other living organisms to reproduce.

and covid back with a vengeance

:demonic:

stay inside

Actually some experts are now saying to go outside (just not to drive to any businesses). The data coming in so far states that the mass protests haven't led to the current spike in cases. Though the protests weren't socially distanced a lot of people wore masks which is said to have helped protest goers. However, it also said in the same article that the MAGA protests didn't lead to any noticeable increase in cases either and those were definitely mask off affairs. This is leading some experts to say that it's not so bad to be "outside" but they literally mean outside. Inside (other than your residence) is the major issue now. We'll see if this new info holds for a week.

Let me find the article.

Ah, there it is.

Facts.

My job is not threatened right now but I'm just feeling on the edge and being stuck inside without the gym is affecting my mental health.

So I can't even imagine what it feels like for other people who are more at risk of losing their job or whatever

Y'all nikkas are incapable of exercising at home or sum'n???
