I think splitting the US up into virtual countries each with their own curve might have merit but for a start there will need to be travel restrictions and controls.

I find it funny this was never even a serious consideration. Not even the most "TAKE THE VIRUS SERIOUSLY" pro lockdown, doomer types really floated the idea. As long as there is unrestricted air travel you'll always have the potential to move local outbreaks across the country in a matter of hours. Demand for air travel has been trending upwards lately as well.

Sad, as I was hoping for the total collapse of the industry.
