78% of the hospitalizations are NON-Covid related though. The surge isn't just from Coronavirus, it's also from an elective surgery backlog and those who had stayed away from the hospital are feeling more comfortable going or can no longer put off going.

Elective surgery causing a surge in hospitalizations? :dead:

I m outta here

While elective surgeries are ramping back up, covid patients are clearly labeled as covid patients and there is a notice increase in covid patients being admitted.

Overall, COVID-19 numbers in Arizona have jumped, hospitalizations have increased and as the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests showed increases, too. Some experts say Arizona is experiencing a spike in community spread of COVID-19, which is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus,

Before covid, most icus routinely operate on average of 75% without covid. The covid on top of normal cases is the cause of concern and has always been the cause of concerns

This will actually force them to go back to canceling elective surgeries as a result.

Edit: this story was published two hours ago. There is talk about canceling elective surgeries again.

Arizona hospitals at 83% capacity, elective surgery may stop

I agree. I just want to make sure there is some perspective. While there is indeed an increase in COVID hospitalizations, there is also an increase in non-covid hospitalizations as well. Covid hospitalizations at this time only make up slightly more than 1/5th of Arizona's total hospitalizations. Could it increase, yes. But the headlines leads people in the direction of believing that the majority of total hospitalizations are from COVID. The situation needs to be monitored anyway, however, as even getting up to 30 or 35% would be a potential disaster. We just aren't at that point yet.

The thing is I've never pretended to be concerned about people dying from the disease and then turned around and wished people died or gloated over increased deaths. I never took the moral high ground. My stance has always been consistent; it's dangerous but not the end of the world. The deaths are tragic but could be much worse and won't come close to the originally projected numbers (millions). Nice try though.

Are you still learning English? While I did wish you and your family much suffering I was never one to run around pretending to be so concerned about the public health and human cost of the disease, only then to turn around and wish COVID upon people that didn't agree with my line of thinking. I just wished it on people because I'm an a$$hole, a key difference. I never tried to take the ridiculous moral high ground only to be a tried and true Coli idiot in the end, like many here. I can say though that I never wished harm on others for the sake of the economy, still waiting on receipts for that, by the way.

So once again, what am I lying about? Ah yes, nothing. Now go back to HL and let your boy Kenny lay in your lap while you pet his little head. Wear a mask though, as you all are from different households. There is a pandemic going on you know.

Mother was telling me some interesting stories about people's feeling at the hospital regarding covid. A few nurses she knows decided to take up that New York offer to go help. They were offering stupid ass money for nurses to travel there and help. They worked 12 hour days for I think she said three weeks.

There is now a schism. She already told me that there are people who didn't believe the virus was as serious as projected, including a fellow doctor or two. There were quite a few nurses who are typically right wing white Karen types who spouted all the typical lines about it being blown up by democrats and what not. Now that some of the nurses actually saw the worse of it up close, now when some of the nurses who stayed bring up how it's overblown, the nurses who went to New York are quick to say how this shyt is serious and no way fake. She said one woman said it was real to her when she had to help stack a dead patient into a refrigerated truck and that isn't something she had to do before.

Again, just found it interesting and further cements my belief how a lot of people lack the ability to empathize and quick to discount shyt until it hits them directly. I don't know what the opinions of the nurses who went to NY before going but, again my mom told me there is a new level of seriousness about it among the nurses who went.

I would imagine. And I do see empathy brought up a lot in these discussions. However, empathy is only applied to the public health side of the issue. There's little empathy for those who are suffering on the economic side. It's just as easy for some to dismiss someone's financial hardship because they are getting paid to work remotely or getting boosted UI benefits. There's a stunning lack of empathy and perspective to go around. That's why it's become a culture cold war.

Damn bro, how long has it been?

I’ve read that’s REALLY common bruv

According to preliminary data from clinicians, about a quarter of recovered COVID-19 patients say they regained their senses of taste and small within two weeks of other symptoms disappearing.

But long-term data is needed to determine when those who did not report an improvement in two weeks recovered their ability to taste and smell. It could take months, and some physicians say they may never recover those senses, the Journalreports.

COVID-19 patients may not recover sense of taste, smell after other symptoms end: The CDC added a new loss of taste or smell to its list of COVID-19 symptoms at the end of April, and now early data from recovered patients is showing that many may not recover those senses after other symptoms of the disease disappear, according to The Wall Street Journal.
