Batman didnt win
in a way he kind of did, it wasn't a SWEEPING victory but joker's plan to turn the ferry boats against one another and tarnish harvey's image was foiled.

sure batman took a PR hit as a result of it but by his own words he seems rather fine with it and is willing to make that sacrifice for the betterment of gotham. he got what he wanted.

Theres no tension in any comic book movie. Spoiler alert, good guys always win :whoo:
Majority if not all action films the good guy wins, that ain't saying nothing new. What separates films like die hard, predator, terminator from winter soldier is better action, more tension, more thrilling type of film making. Yeah you know the good guy will win, but it's not so telegraphed. Maybe I'm just losing interest in comic book films. Marvel films at least.

Batman didn't win breh. Joker got what he wanted: Harvey turned and batman and Gordon were forced to compromise their morals to lie
Is that what Joker wanted though? The Joker's motive wasn't clear, which could be seen as a failing of the movie, but if you take his words at face value he wanted the city to see Harvey as a failure and all his good to be undone. While they had to cheat to do it Batman and Gordon won by keeping people from finding out and leaving the city cleaned up with very little crime for 8 years solid. I doubt that's what the joker wanted to happen.

I think his motives were very clear breh. He wanted to prove that anyone could have their "morals" compromised and be dirtied up whenever the issue called for it. He wanted to prove that batman could be corruptible, and that guys like him, and gordon, and dent, who claim to be on the side of good, have no problem working outside of the law and walking that line between right and wrong. Now I'm not saying it's a clean W on his part because Batman took the blame for it but in the process, Gordon and Batman both lied to the city, a lie that came back to haunt them in dark knight rises. They canonized a monster, and had a whole day named after him. Dark knight rises didn't delve as deep into that as it probably should've but i guess having Bane read Gordon's letter on live tv and having detective gordon-levitt tell him how disappointed he was in him was good enough for Nolan

Don't have time to read the thread right now, but I just came in to say. I watched it almost 2 complete times on sunday while doint laundry cleaning etc.

It just doesn't get old to me. It may just be the best on ever, especially since as a comic I don't even mess with Solo Cap like that.

Dark Knight and Batman Begins are up there. They're really great movies, but they're not as "fun" as some of the best Marvel ones are (Guardians, Iron Man, etc). I've watched Dark knight a lot, but if I see winter soldier in the guide, I'm turning to it, without hesitation.

I think it's overrated. Some good action, but no tension. It just doesn't deliver a knock out blow.
Like I kinda said in the above post, I'm not looking to be knocked out really. I want to enjoy the movie.

DK ends and you still feel kinda Sh1tty:francis:

a bunch of good guys are dead,:mjcry:
joker dies therefore escaping punishment,
dent is now evil,:to:
batman has to go into hiding.:flabbynsick:

No one wins :umad:

Which is not to say that's bad storytelling, It's a top 5 superhero movie, but not something i visit as frequently as the others.

Batman's very existence proves the three of them were willing to work outside the law and compromise for what they saw as the greater good. Lying about Dent didn't really have a negative impact since Bane would have released the prisoners anyway and regular people weren't on his side because of the reveal. As for Robin being disappointed, by the end of the movie he came to understand why they did it and quit the police force because he could do more good without the rules holding him back.

Yeah it is like the movie elevates the lie about Dent over all other lies for some reason.
Didn't they 'lie to the city' when Gordon got shot instead of the mayor and they went around acting like Gordon was dead? They even have a scene in the movie where cops tell Gordon's wife and kid he's dead. Why is that just necessary to win and propping up Dent is this huge L? Shyt is kinda just convoluted the more I think about it.
