Funny thing is, the crowd pop Warrior got for squashing him was more than any reaction HHH got prior to DX...Chyna not included. She would get more crowd reaction as his bodyguard than him.

He got forced into a feud with recently turned face Mankind who was super over and he did the job for Levesque and got pedigreed through a table so he could win the KOR and still nobody cared. He gave a boring speech and the crowd was like “ Check out Chyna”

Apparently they didn't start actually dating until 2000, Bruce Prichard mentions that Steph was involved with somebody else early in 2000 (Jan./Feb.) before HHH. That Untold Documentary about HHH/Foley, Steph says their first kiss was right before the Street Fight at the 2000 Rumble.

I wasn't there, so I can't do much besides take them at their word. Regardless, HHH had won the WWF title twice before even getting involved with Steph in kayfabe or otherwise.
