Could a one month off season possibly work in wrestling?

With their current business model, no. With some restructuring it could maybe be possible but that'd be a major overhaul.

This
is
not
a
sport

With 52 weeks of television to fill.
It's not a sport but even game of thrones takes a year or so off
It's in a spot of it wants to be a sport in theory but it's a soap opera television program yet there isn't a break like every other show

100% WWE is not gonna do it

But if you set it up the right way from the beginning it could definitely work with a new promotion
Lucha underground basically is that promotion
It's no where money wise a draw like wwe but if we decided to fukk around and film that southpaw regional wrestling thing in like say one week and do a bunch of episodes and edit it, it could be interesting and compelling

We saw how he hardy's filmed and edited whole angles and matches and were the hottest thing in tna when they did it, wwe easily could do his better with all their resources. shyt they own a film production company that likel wouldn't lose as much money if they did such a thing and would garner more interest then the marine 7 starring Sheamus or whomever they give it to

Lucha underground films whole seasons and releases it weekly and keep people enthralled with suspenseful cliff hangers

The current model has showed that when you have to write a new show every week upwards to four plus shows a week they get lazy with booking and make so many mistakes. Think of how rare it is for them to organically create all time interesting angles with even more talented guys in this era then in old eras.

A break could work if the WWE was an acclaimed product like Lucha Underground is, but since it isn't, if they took a break, I get the feeling a lot of people would just decide to stop watching for good.

Sure, but the time to implement this is long passed. WWE's entire business model is built around touring almost all year and putting on two live TV shows every week with two live PPV events every month. Switching to a model that gives wrestlers time off (and, by the by, gives them time to plan out storylines and such) would require a complete restructing of how they generate revenue and function as a company. Which would be expensive, which is why they've never done it.

The time to do that would have been way back when they first started doing weekly TV.

Not while Vince is still breathing on this earth.

He's 3rd gen Carnie, even thinking the idea for a second to him is :hhh:.

I'll hazard a guess and say things wouldn't change under Steph either. The only way they may possibly considered an off season, is if every top guy and the guys they are high on were to get injured all at he same time for an extended period.

After WM they do their first European tour of the year, too much money to be made, for them to push that aside. And with the NBA finishing in June and NFL not starting till Sept, carnivals are Summer shows, so they aren't going to give up that revenue with the summer holidays about.

Come the fall, you have the NFL and TV season starting up again and they don't want to lose what viewership they have left now completely. Then as you get towards the end of the year, the second European tour comes around SSeries time and then you have Christmas and you not going to give up all that extra revenue floating about.

The only way you can do it, is to stagger everyone's month break throughout the year. Getting written off TV for a month will do some feuds the world of good, also stops us getting Wrestler A vs Wrestler B on TV over and over again over a 3 month period.

I always thought they should just have the whole month of December off and show nothing but pretaped shows and "best of...." shows and a formal Slammy Awards special during that time while hyping up the upcoming Royal Rumble and "The Road To WrestleMania Will Begin Again...." vignettes.

lucha underground technically has one since they film it all and take break for season but could it work where wrestling promotions or even shows like smackdown and raw took a break where wwe rotated three brands at a time. Raw and smackdown and nxt for he first six months, smackdown and raw he next two, smackdown and nxt for the next two, and raw and nxt for he last two before he too of the year and the royal rumble/mania run for six months

Maybe it helps keep guys from getting hurt as frequently? Puts all the focus on two specific brands and in case some one were to get hurt you have a roster of guys who aren't doing weekly shows who you can pool from

Plus wins and losses would mean more because you would likely want to win or be champion more because you wouldn't theoretically be defending the title every time you appear

Also could force more memorable characters due to only having so much time to make an impact

I think that may be too complicated for younger fans but you're on to something. I do think they should at the very least let people take a break from house shows for about a month.

The problem now is that guy's paychecks are determined by how much they work so it will be hard to get midcarders and jobbers to work less.

Close, they take about a whole week off around Christmas and then hit the house show pavement heavy right after.

Like I mentioned above I don't tapings are the problem because GFW, ROH, LU guys wrestle multiple times per day at tapings, the difference is they can make their schedule up outside of tapings. WWE guys have to wrestle 3 more times in the week.
