Could a 03' 50 cent "ja rule" a current drake back in the early 00s landscape or naw

It's too late now just because Drake has been around for so long. If it did happen, it would have to be a rapper with crossover and pop appeal like 50. People got sick of Ja's poppy singles quickly and 50 seemed like the "realer" alternative even though 50 also wrote catchy shyt - but people haven't gotten sick of Drake and they maybe never will. It's a different landscape than it was back then. If anything makes Drake's popularity drop, him getting older is more likely.

Totally different eras so you can't make the comparison. A better question would be...could a hood or more "rappity rap" dude have clowned Drake in the last decade, like 50 did Ja. My answer is no and it's why I've always felt like people saying Kendrick (or Cole) would destroy Drake haven't been paying attention. Both are better rappers, make better albums, and don't have ghostwriters. But people identity with Drake more than them, and audiences today are more like Drake than a dude who grew up poor in Compton or North Carolina. The melody stuff has been dominant for too long, nobody knocks him for his suburban roots, nobody cares that he's not a gangsta, and we saw that most people didn't even give a shyt that he has/had ghostwriters.

He's basically got that 8 Mile Rabbit thing where his weaknesses don't hurt him because he acknowledged them. Yea he's a simp, he's told you that for a decade so how can he be attacked on that.

A lot of the reason why people hate Ja Rule because he was singing with his ruff voice on singles with actual RnB singers. Plus he wasn't "hood" enough and he was lying about being in the streets.

Times have changed.
Oh shyt yea I forgot about Ross but this was a 50 cent in 09-2010 when he had already kinda fell off...and Ross music was on fire also had a strong work ethic with mmg deeper than rap and the mixtapes and features

If Meek couldn’t end Drake armed with the knowledge and PROOF that he’s a fraud who can’t write a rhyme to save his life and allowed other men to piss on him then naw. Ain’t nobody bodying Drake the way 50 (and the feds) strong armed Ja.

The closest was Push
Meek ain't never been anywhere near 03 50.

You can be "real" and still be a c00n by letting white women diss you and be working with the FEDS on some sellout shyt.

Plus, being "real" doesn't mean that you can make good music. G Unit ain't the Wu Tang Clan.

You could say that 50's and Eminem's fame prevented 50 from falling off when Jadakiss roasted him, later by Game and Cam'ron. So by 05/06 even, the rap game became a fake person's safe haven. Happened even before Ross.

In 2003 of course. 50 was the standard of what it meant to be a street rapper. He dictated what was acceptable.

In 2023 Hell no, matter fact Drake would be bullying 50 now.

Authenticity is no longer a thing in hip-hop. Nobody cares if you're street or p*ssy, or if you sing as a rapper. Those were the reasons why 50 got Ja out of here. Those rules no longer apply

Ironic thing, now Jadakiss got his past exposed by his pops, and people now wondering if Jada would be outted from the rap game entirely back in the early 00s since he was an upper middle class black kid that went to private school and gotten good grades.

Even now, some radio stations still play throwback Ja Rule songs and (somewhat) forgave Ja since we live in the age of melodic rappers and fabricated images as the norm.

you right. It's funny how nikkas will make fun of Ja till this day but all their current favorite rappers are all Ja Rule clones to an extent. Thugged out, drugged up melodic rappers lmao

Jada is interesting because he has a likable personality and is a natural fan favorite. I could see people giving him a pass regardless.

Now if the story broke that it was Styles that came from a 2 parent home, went to college etc.. lol I think nikkas would look at that differently bc Styles is known as the livewire
