All technologies but can't get rid of the virus, what's stopping from more viruses originating there, that who knows how severe they could be?

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair insists that vaccine passports are the fastest way back to normal life.

GETTY
As the number of countries embracing digital vaccine passports grows in Europe and elsewhere, one former head of state says it’s just a matter of time before they take off around the world.
Why Vaccine Passports Are ‘Inevitable,’ Explained By former UK leader Tony Blair

While lockdowns can be effective in slowing down the disease, Blair said strict travel restrictions are not a sustainable option. “The one thing that’s very clear is that disease anywhere is disease everywhere,” he said. “Even those countries that have gone for eradication because they’ve been able to do so — like for example New Zealand, South Korea, Australia — I mean, at some point they’ve got to open back up again.”

Two weeks ago, Blair told The Telegraph there were two significant risks if the UK failed to support a global coronavirus vaccine passport program. “One is that everyone just does their own thing, which is much more chaotic and difficult to manage. Or secondly, there's a set of rules in place that you may not be that happy with,” said Blair. “It's better to have common rules and a common verification system, so that people know what your disease status is and know it with some validation."

But so far, there has not been an international consensus on vaccine passports. Only a small but growing number of countries have already launched or soon will launch their own vaccine certification programs. But Blair says the majority of countries in the world will jump on the bandwagon when the most powerful nations finally step up.

“They’ll sign up to it as soon as the leading countries of the world put their heads together and devise a common set of standards,” said Blair. “Look, I have looked at this from every single angle and I just can’t see another way out of it.”

Blair believes that every country will need a long-term solution that delivers confidence to the public. “The early evidence seems to be that if you’re vaccinated, you’re less likely to transmit the disease,” said Blair, adding that being able to show proof of inoculation in order to engage in certain activities is “just inevitable.”

“When you start to reopen your borders again, you’ll want to know the disease status of people coming into your country. Once vaccination really starts to be widespread, of course you’re going to ask for proof of what the vaccination status is,” said Blair. “Therefore it’s best to start now on trying to devise common standards and if you start to do this on a vast scale, you’re going to need the technology that allows you to do it digitally.”

They can't do this, even some of european countries, where people are so progressive, have like damn near half of the people refusing to take the shot. This will cost huge money for bunch of companies if they simply ban those people from attending airports, certain places and so on.
i see some of em changing their mind

Some countries could require ‘vaccine passports’ by summer 2021

On Feb. 10, Denmark’s government said it is joining forces with businesses to develop a digital passport that would show whether people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, allowing them to travel and help ease restrictions.

Finance Minister Morten Boedskov told a news conference that "in three, four months, a digital corona passport will be ready for use in, for example, business travel."

"It is absolutely crucial for us to be able to restart Danish society so that companies can get back on track. Many Danish companies are global companies with the whole world as a market," he added.

As a first step, before the end of February, citizens in Denmark would be able to see on a Danish health website the official confirmation of whether they have been vaccinated.

"It will be the extra passport that you will be able to have on your mobile phone that documents that you have been vaccinated," Boedskov said. "We can be among the first in the world to have it and can show it to the rest of the world."

The Common Trust Network, a partnership between airlines, the World Economic Forum and the non-profit The Commons Project, recently introduced the CommonPass App. (Commons Project.)

The Danish government said it will decide later on whether the digital passport should be used for purposes other than travel to help reopen public life.

Shortly after Denmark’s announcement, Sweden said earlier this month it will be launching a digital coronavirus "vaccine passport" to allow people who have been vaccinated to travel.

Digitalization Minister Anders Ygeman said three authorities in Sweden had been asked to work on producing the certificate, and the plan is to coordinate it with the World Health Organization and the European Union.

Ygeman told a news conference that vaccination certifications will likely be required for travel and "possibly taking part in other activities" when Sweden and neighboring countries start to open up again.

On Tuesday, Estonia said it will allow passengers arriving into the country with a proof of COVID-19 vaccination to avoid quarantine requirements.

The Baltic country said that the certificate must meet certain criteria, including information saying when the vaccine was made, which vaccine was used, the issuer of the vaccine and the vaccine batch number. The certificate must be in either in Estonian, Russian, or English.
