It's the initial response that was without any redemption, the US did nothing, but close flights and play politics. Total disaster. European nations were caught off guard, and went into defensive mode quicker, and harder, but the world looks to the US for leadership, still, so no surprise western Euro nations were struggling to follow a lead.
A lockdown in the US just isn't sustainable, there has to be measured re opening now. No way around that. We have NOTHING to offer people to stay locked down, but brute force. No safety net, strong disregard for our government, (which is right wing based, but whatever) it was never going to be something that worked long term.
