Yes, it is a quick jump. but he didn't jump Booker, Booker was not in line ahead of Obama. It's that simple...All these people except the billionaire business people who come out of nowhere, have been playing the game building up to their run. It's only considered leap frogging someone if someone were pretty much tapped/in line to be next. Hilary Clinton was supposed to be next in 08, but Obama came out of nowhere and took the nom. CB was not in the conversation for president in 08, not by his own actions nor by action/decision of the DNC.

I didn't see Obama leapfrogging Hillary. They ran against each other and the voters made their decisions .

Perhaps because I'm in this area of the country I became aware of Booker and his political aspirations and media coverage earlier and saw him higher in the pecking order than he was . I've followed Harold and Jesse Jackson Jr. before that and I thought that they would get the national office push. . I was blindsided by the rise of Obama as a serious candidate and by his election.

Around what year(s) was this? Awareness of Booker, Harold, and Jackson?

it's because he's from NJ why he's a shill for big pharma. it's like joe biden and MBNA. they are senators from their states first before they are senators representing all of america's interests.

I'm aware of that, but his decision effects ALL Americans. This man has been preparing for the presidency for quite sometime now. When your future aspirations include being a president, you can't think about just your state in the long term because it will bite you in the ass later.

I bet he regrets it now or should.

while i don't think he'll pull together a wide enough coalition to win the nom, to laugh at "business friendly liberal" is to forget there is a decent segment of big business/"bout my paper" liberals in coastal areas. he's one of the candidates that resonates with well paid/upper income democrats :ld:

How many times are we going to tell you people you can't win elections based on Coastal Elites?!

He's scum. Huge promises for Newark which as usual were not delivered.

Rose to prominence under a platform of supporting public employees, specifically teachers, through "school choice", then stood idly by while our pensions became even more embarrassingly underfunded and our contributions rose drastically. Any teacher with half a brain understands that the function of school choice is to weaken and eventually dismantle the NJ teachers' unions (among the strongest in the nation).

It's fukk Booker all day and I speak for Essex County on that :camby:

Right.

I find it funny how people outside of the tri-state area have a lot of good to say about Booker, but from what I've been told by people from NJ is a different story.

did you choose to ignore the part of the post that said "i don't think he can pull together a wide enough coalition to win the nom"...as in his current base isnt enough? :comeon: that's still a sizable part of the base.

If we're talking about politicians who have national profiles.

The national conventions are showcases for upcoming "political stars". The entire country becomes aware of who they are overnight.

I mentioned that Harold Ford aka Jr. was given a prime slot of delivering the keynote address for the DNC in 2000

His father was a popular & respected politician and CBC member, so Harold was plugged into those networks before he hit the national spotlight.

===============================

The release of the documentary Street Fight , in 2005 can be seen as the first national exposure that Corey Booker received , but he had received national print and tv coverage when he was a councilman in Newark in the late 1990s. He used publicity stunts to create/raise his media profile from the early stage of his political career.

===============================
Jesse Jackson Jr. was always going to be overshadowed by his father, but as early as the late 1990s I remember seeing him speak in national forums/platforms. His name , his father's ties, and that he operates in Chicago, another major media market...points to him having a high profile at least since he won his seat in congress in 1996.

The representing his states interests argument is disengenuous anyway. Far more people in NJ are adversely affected by drug price gouging, the opiod crisis, etc than profit off or employed by pharmaceutical companies.

An exclusive look at Cory Booker’s plan to fight wealth inequality: give poor kids money

I wonder between Yang's UBI and Booker's Baby Bond we may actually have something that allows wealth building.

Kids get baby bonds up until they are 18 (How much depends on poverty level). Adults get UBI when they turn 18 until they die (regardless of poverty level).
If those are feasible plans, Dem. party is going to work overtime to derail their campaigns.
Too many social programs and depts. would be dismantled if the poverty rate decreased.
