Off a few listens yesterday (none yet today) I think FKTAG has smoother sequencing and flows a little better as an album. And it sounds more like a classic "debut album" from an artist. Like, FKTAG sounds more appropriate to me as a major label introduction to the world.

On the other hand, the 4 best songs on GDMM are 4 of the very best he's ever done, and better than the 4 best songs on FKTAG. So to me, GDMM has higher highs, but I still think FKTAG is a smoother overall listening experience.

The original intention was for FKTAG and GDMM to be released a few months apart and be like Disc 1 and Disc 2 on Biggie's Life After Death. 1st disc a little brighter. 2nd disc a little darker. That's the vibe I get on this.

I'm gonna sit with this one a bit then see where this compares to From King, but i'm liking the sound of this album. Both are polished and crisp sounding. I had FKTG on repeat when it was released.

Solid 3.5 mic album.

I really feel that Conway suffered from sample clearance issues on the same level Ghostface Killah did with Bulletproof Wallets in that it changed what could easily be 4.5 mic project into 3.5 mics. This album clearly suffered. Also, the features were just not up to par. Beanie Sigel sounded terrible & the features on Drumwork were just not good. Really, just too many features. Tear Gas is a solid enough song but the hook is terrible. The track with TI was cool but the singing was not good at all. Piano Love, Stressed & GDMM were the clear highlights of the album. Solid 3.5 mics.
I'm not mad at this take. The singing is the worst part of the album for me too.

Interesting to me that Piano Love is in your top 3. It's hard, but overall in the deep roster of ConChemist songs, it's in the bottom half to me. I'll put it this way...as a Lulu leftover, there's nothing Al is doing on the beats and nothing Con is saying on the raps on Piano Love that I don't think each of them did even better on Lulu.

Same here. FKTAG was in my top 3 albums of 2020, and it might've been the one I enjoyed the most. Especially if I get to count the deluxe edition.

If you could find a way to take out the 4 weakest joints there and replace them with 6, 8, 9, and 12 on here...that might be one of my favorite rap albums ever.

You got John Woo Flick over Spurs 3? :jbhmm:

I don't think I do.

I hear you. I just really like that Alchemist beat & Conway actually provided more than one verse. His hook was good too. Usually I’m not a fan on Conway hooks. I just think it’s a great deep cut. Some other tracks like Guilty are cool but just too short. I really think Conway has ran out of shyt to say. I get that he got personal on this album but he speaks so much about getting shot on so many verses it gets redundant. I really think he needs to seek out a therapist and give up the alcohol if he is to progress.

John Woo has grown on me a lot. Spurs 3 was pretty good too. I can say they are both equal.

I think you might be thinking of La Maquina. That was like all modern beats. FKTAG was a lot of Daringer, Alc, Havoc, Beat Butcha, Erick Sermon, Rockwilder, and Roc Marci on the beats.

Most of that and this album were recorded during the spring-fall of 2020 and we’re meant to drop back to back like a disc 1 and 2
I wasn’t really feeling those Beat Butcha beats or the song with Dej Loaf and Armani Ceaser…I did like Dough and Damani and From King

La Maquina was cool the beats on there matched with the features he had so it made sense going with those types of beats

You sold me on Piano Love.

You missed me on the 2nd take entirely. We now know he has a cousin that committed suicide, a stillborn child, etc. He keeps rapping about more things, so how's he run out of stuff to say? Did you hear Greetings Earthlings? It's worth a listen of you didn't. He's in therapy and he's currently sober. He touches on it on a few joints on there.

Also most rappers always rap about the same shyt. At this point Conway raps about just as much stuff as damn near any other rapper.

Dough Damani is classic shyt. Jesus Khrysis and Nothin' Less. Forever Dropping Tears. From King is a pro wrestler type intro.

I feel you on some of those Beat Butcha beats. The joint with Armani isn't that crazy. I liked the joint with Dej Loaf but I like Hit-Boy and the beat reminded me of the Chicago Bulls entrance music for some reason.

Facts, all 3 main members rap about the same shyt :mjlol:

Gunn always rap about designer clothes, shooting nikkas and doing drive-bys outta foreign cars and Benny always rap about selling drugs from the plug, BSF and going to the feds etc...:russ:

Conway been the most diverse of the crew for a minute.

I’m glad to hear he has put the alcohol down and is in therapy. He is such a skilled MC I feel that he has been affected heavily by his substance abuse. You’re right, he did open up some more
In some of the verses on this album. I just feel that he speaks on him getting shot and having Bell’s palsy so much that it gets redundant. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he’s got in store in the future because this album was recorded long enough ago I feel that he can move forward with the content now.

Not only this, but like...everyone basically raps about the same shyt. The idea that there's just a ton of rappers out there that rap about a ton of different things is made up. That's not a real thing. There's a handful of rappers that legitimately rap about a lot of different things. But even then...that's not by default a mark of dopeness. You can rap about everything and be trash, or rap about one thing and be fine. Or hell you can basically rap about nothing and be great, like Redman.

Nothing wrong with that. I actually heard Pharrell say something really dope about this whole topic. He was like "Basically all pop songs are the same. But as long as it'a not literally the same song, who cares?" He said "People love having sex, and it's always sex, but it doesn't have to be the same every time." He was talking about how all Clipse songs were basically the same, and how all the pop songs he was producing were basically the same, but that none of that shyt mattered. I wish I had the Scratch Magazine still because he worded it a little sharper but it was along those lines.

I don’t want to keep hearing verses about him getting shot in the head and having Bells Palsy over and over again. That’s all I’m saying :hubie:
