Solid 3.5 mic album.

I really feel that Conway suffered from sample clearance issues on the same level Ghostface Killah did with Bulletproof Wallets in that it changed what could easily be 4.5 mic project into 3.5 mics. This album clearly suffered. Also, the features were just not up to par. Beanie Sigel sounded terrible & the features on Drumwork were just not good. Really, just too many features. Tear Gas is a solid enough song but the hook is terrible. The track with TI was cool but the singing was not good at all. Piano Love, Stressed & GDMM were the clear highlights of the album. Solid 3.5 mics.

I need to revisit FKTAG but when I heard it it was too mainstream sounding for me…this album feels like a condensed version of FKTAG in my opinion
I think you might be thinking of La Maquina. That was like all modern beats. FKTAG was a lot of Daringer, Alc, Havoc, Beat Butcha, Erick Sermon, Rockwilder, and Roc Marci on the beats.

Most of that and this album were recorded during the spring-fall of 2020 and we’re meant to drop back to back like a disc 1 and 2

The drum work sample getting changed ruined the song smh. GDMM less so

Babas might be favorite one on here
See, the funny thing is Drumwork is the one song on this album I didn't hear ahead of time, and I didn't really think less of the song when I finally heard it, because I didn't know otherwise. I noticed GDMM was a little different, but most of the beat is there and I actually dig that there's more space in the beat to help his storytelling stand out even more. I'm not mad at that one. Same thing with Johnny P's Caddy by Bennt and Cole. It sounded vaguely familiar when I heard it, but I only heard the OG beat maybe one time so I wasn;t attached to it.

I'm for real never listening to live streams again. It was fun to do in the pandemic (especially early on) when we were all inside more and locked down, but going forward I just don't want to hear any music until it's released.

This article made me think of all the live streaming stuff, and how artists feel pressure now to keep their audiences tapped in with what they're doing all the time.

I’m derailing a lil but yo, do you what happened with the hall and Nash project? Low key I thought kilo was supposed to be in that
Hall & Nash 2 was originally set to release on Shady. When they first first signed, it was one of the albums they were going to drop on Shady in mid 2017 or so. Recording finishing late 2016. It was all Alchemist beats, and Shady heard all the samples and said "nope." From what I understand, they didn't feel like replaying them or altering the art, so a lot of the Hall & Nash 2 songs were released on other projects. 94 Ghost, Judas, Rey Mysterio, Eastside, etc.

I really can't decide yet if FKTG or this album is better, seems like they both equal with the deeper cuts.
Off a few listens yesterday (none yet today) I think FKTAG has smoother sequencing and flows a little better as an album. And it sounds more like a classic "debut album" from an artist. Like, FKTAG sounds more appropriate to me as a major label introduction to the world.

On the other hand, the 4 best songs on GDMM are 4 of the very best he's ever done, and better than the 4 best songs on FKTAG. So to me, GDMM has higher highs, but I still think FKTAG is a smoother overall listening experience.

The original intention was for FKTAG and GDMM to be released a few months apart and be like Disc 1 and Disc 2 on Biggie's Life After Death. 1st disc a little brighter. 2nd disc a little darker. That's the vibe I get on this.

:hubie:It almost seems unfair to hold this as a critique against this album, but I like the top 4 songs so much more than anything else on here that I'm listening to those 4 so much more than the rest of the album. No matter what song is on, I keep wanting to skip to Guilty, Much More, Stress, and the title track.

It's not even that the rest isn't dope too. But those 4 are just so much more elevated than basically anything I've heard from Conway before. If he dropped a project with 8-10 songs all sort of like those 4? That could legit be one of my favorite albums of all time.
