All I've really heard from Dave East is the project he did with Styles P. I liked it, but I never dug much into his solo work. I feel like Dave has a really good voice and delivery to be in a duo or a group with someone. I thought he played a good Scottie to Styles' MJ.

Also on the joint he did with Jim Jones, Conway, and Elcamino, I thought he had the worst verse. :manny:

This is the first time I've seen a Red Cafe reference in years. :ohhh: I forgot all about that cat.

Yea that album with Styles was really good. That was a nice pairing and Styles has always been consistent production wise on his solos

Couldn't agree more, I can't remember an album that grew on me like Tea in China.

Who else are you listening to right now (rap or otherwise)?
Thx for asking breh. I'm curious to your answer too. I'll spoiler tag in since it'll go off topic from just this album here.

Favorite hip hop projects this year are in no particular order (besides Tea in China being #1) - King to a God, King's Disease, OutRunners by Currensy and Harry Fraud, As God Intended by Che Noir and Apollo Brown, the 3 Alchemist collabs (China, Alfredo, and Lulu), Reasonable Drought by Stove God Cooks and Roc Marci, Descendants of Cain by Ka. Director's Cut 1-3 by Ransom. Confessions of a Sex Addict by Mr. eXquire. Miles by Blu and Exile. Allegory by Royce 5'9. Written Testimony by Jay E and Jay Z.

I need to get around to peeping Bluest Note and Milestones by Skyzoo. Six Shots by 38 Spesh. Odd Cure by Oddisee. T.H.I.N.G.S. by Reks. All the Flee Lord projects besides the Pete Rock one. The Che Noir album produced by 38 Spesh. And pretty much everything Currensy has dropped besides OutRunners.

I'm really looking forward to the Tough Crowd album by Evidence. The Method Man project produced by Havoc. Seven Times Down Eight Times Up by Elzhi produced by JR Swiftz. God Don't Make Mistakes by Conway. Burden of Proof by Benny produced by Hit-Boy. The Food Villain by Alchemist. The Pusha T and Madlib album.Hall & Nash 2 by Conway & Westside produced by Alchemist. Midsummer's Nightmare by GQ and 9th Wonder.

As far as non hip-hop stuff goes, I've enjoyed It Is What It Is by Thundercat. Slow Rush by Tame Impala. Dinner Party by Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder. Teyana Taylor self titled album. Imploding the Mirage by The Killers.

Forever Dropping Tears sounds like something Just Blaze might’ve produced, I keep going back to that song. Also sounds like something Freeway or the Roc would’ve rapped on, Got a early 2000’s vibe.
:ohhh: Yeah Freeway would sound dope on there.

It makes sense. It's Erick Sermon and Rockwilder. That reminds me of sort of a blend of both their sounds in the 2000's. I see what you mean about Just Blaze. There's a lot going on in the beat, and Just was always really good at making beats with a lot of stuff going on that didn't sound overly busy.

Yea I get a Philadelphia Freeway type of vibe hearing it. Sounds like something out of that exact era.

Ka has AOTY:hubie:
Although I said no particular order, he was like the 3rd album I named on my AOTY list. I thought of it right away.

Ka made as good an album as anyone this year. I won't argue with you about that album. It's incredible.

My thing is I'm a producer first, and that's just the ear I have. Ka's album is maybe the most dense and layered lyricism I've heard all year. It's out of this world. But I just think Tea in China is the perfect marriage of an emcee that has has leveled up big time, and trusted a producer to handle all of the sequencing, etc. I always have been and always will be, a sucker for albums where there's one emcee and one producer. Ka is a great producer himself, but the main reason I don't have Descendants of Cain as my personal AOTY is because I can't just listen to it at any time. I have to be in a very specific mood to hang onto every word.

I just don't think me saying he's got an easy AOTY contender and naming him in the first few names when I rattled off my list counts as disrespect :manny: Dude dropped an incredible piece of art for 2020.

I can dig it, most people are going to forget descendants of cain because it came out early. But I think beat and lyric wise nothing is touching that. Agree to disagree :hubie:
