It's a taste thing and an image thing. Dave is a rapper who is clearly being modeled to appeal to women. He has some softer tracks. Griselda is well a "man's label" for lack of a better term. It invokes testosterone and aggression. Different joints for different audiences.

Those were two terrible back to back posts :mjlol::mjlol:I mess with some of Dave East’s music but has no idea what type of artist he is

i can't see the post no more but i'm pretty sure (memory might be off, that thread was old af cuz i haven't even been posting since corona) they weren't "back to back" . there were some conway bars to analyze and there may have been a dope song posted where i talked about Dave flowing like the breeze .... so bro is hiding his head in the sand ignoring the facts posted in that whole conversation. on top of that editing a several month old conversation according to his feelings
but my posting is weird? lol, ok :hubie:

as far as "what type of artist" dave is. i don't really type him like that either, i think the majority of great rap artists are not a "type". he's pretty versatile which is one of the main reason i'll take him over conway. they both do the street stuff similarly and well. but in the end, this is entertainment so if you can do other stuff well on other types of beats with other types of flows, i prefer that guy lol. I do like the one trick he has, but even then i think conway is starting to try to expand too. good for him

I just don’t think Dave East does anything very well. He has some good sounding stuff, but from project to project, he makes a lot of very average stuff, especially now since he’s had enough success. I think his best tracks are story telling, yet he refuses to dive headfirst into that and instead make generic trap anthems and songs for the ladies that you forget what they sound like as soon as you hear them. At this point, Dave East is just a more successful younger Red Cafe.

and that cool if that's how you feel. i happen to forget some of the stuff conway puts out but i still mess with him. like i told bro in the other thread, subjective opinions aren't worth arguing over, definitely not worth memorizing to be able to pull up 6 months later

Drums and the beat sound generic as hell:francis:

I find most trap beats generic, but since I don't listen to many of them, I probably just don't have the ear for hearing quality trap the same way I have the ear for quality boom-bap.

If it is generic, I still ain't that mad at it. The appeal to me of hearing cats with diverse flows like Gibbs or Conway over trap beats is just hearing them do it all. They are two of the only exceptions where I probably care more about the lyrics and delivery than the production.

All I've really heard from Dave East is the project he did with Styles P. I liked it, but I never dug much into his solo work. I feel like Dave has a really good voice and delivery to be in a duo or a group with someone. I thought he played a good Scottie to Styles' MJ.

Also on the joint he did with Jim Jones, Conway, and Elcamino, I thought he had the worst verse. :manny:

This is the first time I've seen a Red Cafe reference in years. :ohhh: I forgot all about that cat.

For real, it's been a long ass time since an album has grown on me like Tea in China. It's on some other shyt. When I first heard it I actually was super let down. I thought it was average as hell. But I gave it another chance a month or two later and it just hit entirely different. It gets better and better every month. I can't wait to play it this winter. It's really cool to see that album getting its flowers.

Couldn't agree more, I can't remember an album that grew on me like Tea in China.

Who else are you listening to right now (rap or otherwise)?
