I never got that vibe reading his work tbh. I don't think he focused on providing solutions but he didn't necessarily say that we should roll over and accept it.
I get that people can interpret texts differently, but whenever I hear this type of criticism, I wonder if yall even fully comprehend coates work.

These arguments feel like the equivalent of a rapper being taken less seriously due to his proximity or lack thereof to being in the streets regardless of his lyrical ability.
I feel like a lot this debate is based on the role of an author Vs. the role of an activist. Sometimes people enjoy staying in their lane and just doing what they do best. In Coates case, he sticks to writing that is potent and resonates with the culture at large. I feel like a lot West's messages get lost in translation because he's too all over the place. Coates is pretty open about the limitations of his knowledge, always cautioning in his blog posts and interviews that he is still learning a lot — and only tries to write about what he knows about.
All I know is, it's been cool to see a brother like Coates ascend to the heights he has after being a high-school and college dropout. He's not beyond critique of course, but we gotta stop with all the "Soros liberal shill" conspiracy theories everytime a black person is poppin. Its a crab mentality. Black people are not a monolith and a byproduct of white supremacy is the belief of this "there can only be one" ideology. We're only going to move forward as a people if our best and brightest can put all of our best ideas together into a collective pot. That means listening to and appreciating different perspectives and vantage points.
We gotta collaborate more and remove ourselves from the divide and conquer techniques which are clearly at play here.

Like it would be different if people were pulling out and quoting specific lines from his work to critique and offering constructive criticism. But this forum always goes super left and extra with the hate to the point where you can't even have a productive dialogue. It holds back the power this platform holds in terms of sharing ideas and building honestly.

Again, theres a handful of black writers that are even respected on a wide scale.
