Colibrehs you've been made NBA commissioner with the task of fixing the NBA. You are guaranteed a 4 year contract to do so. What would you change?

I haven't read through the thread so some one may have come up with this already but I would create a percentage cap of a particular score on 3s. Something like if you score 20 points in a quarter only like 9 of those are allowed to be threes. So any three pointer taken after the 3rd three just counts as two. And 1s still count. I feel likt it fukks with the entire math angle that people go with the 3 and it would incentivize play within the 3 point arc. I feel like doing it on a per quarter basis is the only way to do it though. I don't know if it fixes ratings but it might make it more interesting to watch..

If you're not interested in the NBA, then why are you still posting about it? If TheColi isn't interested about, why are they still posting about it?

I'm not interested in wrestling like I once was, that's why I don't post about it. I don't go up in that subforum reminding everyone how I don't think wrestling isn't what it used to be.

When are you going to give up posting about it given you're no longer interested in it?
The Coli does not post about the NBA the way they did even five years.

Thecoli is pretty damn good gauge on the decline of the NBA viewership

Hand checking is a crutch no need to bring that back. All hand checking does is handicap the more athletic player. Use footwork and angles
The effect of hand checking was overrated. You had plenty of athletic and smaller players who thrived with it. It actually put more emphasis on ball skills. Even with hand checking wasn't nobody stopping players like Tim Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, Mark Price, John Stockton and the list could go on. Allowing hand checking theoretically would allow for a more physical game with less ticky tack fouls being called and for teams to actually run more varied offenses IMO instead of everything been centered around a pick and roll into an iso that makes the defense collapse because it's so much harder to play one on one defense. So defenders have to help off to cut off angles which then leads to more open shots from so so shooters. If teams are allowed to play more physical one on one defense could lead to bringing down three point shooting as there wouldn't be as much of a need for so much help defense.

tried to read some but goin in on my own:

widen court to extend corner 3s to a regular singular length ( more space for more room inside)

reviews have 2 minute limit . either u got it or u don't ..

every game will have 6 refs now. each baseline. and each half court . and only 3 can can call foul( depending where ball is in play)

expansion to at least 34 teams.. add Vegas. Seattle. 2nd Canada team big market. and maybe San Diego... cut season rosters to 15 total instead of 18.. and year round. (spread talent round).

would immediately incorporate those 4 teams .. teams will only be able to protect 5 players.. with players they are not protecting being able to get drafted with there current contract.. (regular is 8 protected but 4 teams coming in one off-season gon be crazy). new teams will be guerrenteed top 5 picks in following draft. (4 new teams + worse team).

bad teams can't be worse than there previous year ever if you received a top 3 pick. if u do it resets to end of draft and everyone gets pushed up. but u can draft 1s.. then 4th or 3rd then 4th.. but not b2b in top 3.

season will be 99 games. no preseason. keep summer league.. more games throughout day.. and long enough season to make sure there is no b2bs for any team. each team will play every team 3 times.. (home/away/other special) other special being other markets/ across the world / different venues (football stadiums/ diff arenas that could accommodate). there will be no more divisions or conferences.

playoffs will be top 16.. first round will go back to beast of 5.. since seeds will be crazy. 1 vs 16 etc. and season extension.

load management might still be an issue with season extension.. but if any starter misses a game .. fans at the game get a coupon for another game for a discount of whatever % of cap said player that missed the game was. so up to 30% off .. and if the game they pick also has a player missing a game they get another coupon.. so forth and so forth till they stop using said coupon or till starting 5 is healthy.

tell me what I'm missing..

adding :

I would figure out how to have a telecast on HBO with explicit content.. mics all over the floor and let players talk shyt .. pre/half/post show full off cusswords lol... the virality could be dope here.

What yall think about the team with HC in the playoffs getting 5 games instead of 4? This would definitely make the regular season more competitive
I like the idea but honestly don't make a difference. I thought the play-in tournament would have teams going all out to avoid having to win an all or nothing game just to make the playoffs and we still see the load management or players phoning it in.

What I'd like to see is contracts having built in escalators based on how they finish in the season. So if the max is 60, players get 30 for the season, 10 for making the playoffs and another 5 for every round of the playoffs they win.

What physical play would you allow for 1v1 defense that would limit 3-pt shooting?

There isn't any.

The only physical defense that you can really play is in the post and contesting shots at the rim (using your body), not on actual jumpshots, especially that far out. To that point though, it's strange to me how there's this overemphasis on soft physical defense or ticky tack fouls (not accusing you of this directly), when really it's no different to eras of the past.

The only real difference between this era and the past is hard/non-basketball fouls are penalized harsher.

When I see the likes of Reggie run around screens completely unimpeded vs. Steph being pulled, dragged, pushed to the floor etc trying to get open, I wonder what folks are really watching.

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.
Super Max should be restricted for SUPER STARS.

A super star is must satisfy all these categories.

1. All NBA 1st team at least once in the last 3 years AND at least 2nd team all NBA in each of the last 3 years.

2. At least 1 finals appearence in the last 3 years OR at least 2 CF appearance in each of the last 3 years.

3. Top 5 MVP candidate at least once in the last 3 years.

All-NBA needs at least 70 regular games to qualify. No player on team that's below 8th seed should be All-NBA anything. You ain't good enough to impact winning, which is why All-NBA should be about.

But the league's making too much money, journeyman brehs are making $15m a year. So everybody's comfortable already.

I mean physical on-ball defense. I mean like the physical Tony Allen, Battier, Bowen types that would use their hands to play great defense and could lockdown most players one on one. Or like that Paul George clip that was posted. That type of defense has mostly been taken out of the game. If players had more ability to defend in a more physical manner one on one then there wouldn't be as much of a need for doubling on ball or as much trapping which leads to the ball being swung to the open player which leads to so many threes in my opinion. Most of the threes taken in today's games by mediocre shooters are because they are wide open. Teams would be more forced to run plays to get their good three point shooters open.

With the lack of physical defense it makes so many more players a driving threat where most teams now have multiple guys that you can run a pick and roll for to force a switch or just iso them and they can force a help defender.

We saw last year post all star break how much scoring dipped in large part because refs started swallowing their whistles more.

I fully understand why teams shoot so many threes as it is by far the smartest strategy. I would just like the offense to earn those open threes and I think that can be done by tilting the rules some back in the defense's favor by allowing the hand checking and minimizing the guys that are penetration threats.

Never heard these two before. Interesting. Especially the HC thing. Because only one more HC game doesn't seem THAT much of an advantage. I think it often only really matters in the first round where there's a big gap between the two teams.

The first change would be to widen the court. Players are way too quick and long and it hurts the post game because of how easy it is to cheat off your man and get back with the current court dimensions. It'll also force defenses to make tougher decisions if they had further to go to help on a driver and still have to close on a further 3 point line. It would also help weed out hopefully some of the bad 3 point shooters who keep taking them.

:what: WHY ARE YOU nikkaS
TRYING TO MAKE IT TOUGHER
ON DEFENDERS?

I think you’re getting to the heart of the issue. Casual fans just don’t feel like todays NBA is competitive and one of the reasons is that hustle players and defensive specialists have been phased out of the game.

The return of physical defense needs to happen immediately.

Also get rid of defensive 3 seconds. Offensive should have to work to move the defense out of the paint.

Defense would be more effective if they call traveling properly. It’s impossible to stop a player that can take 5 steps

  1. Accelerate expansion to Vegas and Seattle. Like...by tipoff 2026.
  2. Make the NBA all Star game voting and game like it used to be, just regular, but add a 36 million dollar price to the winners. Every player gets $3mm if they win. These guys are rich but 3 million is 3 million.
  3. Have standing, regularly scheduled evening games on network tv. Friday most likely...own a day like cfb does Saturday and NFL does Sunday. And bring back double and triple headers on network tv starting Christmas, on Sundays.
  4. Bridge relationships with ESPN and network college broadcasting...build anticipation for high performing college players so they're hot coming into the draft. Have a college star of the week on inside the NBA / inside stuff weekly.
  5. Create a hard knocks type show, showcasing a smaller market team. I don't like these but casuals eat them up.
