That was the biggest problem with his show but what do we have as an alternative? Guys like Paul Mooney will never have a big show like that because they are too straight with it. Is he funny? Yes, but TV execs would never give him a big budget because of his material. I think part of the appeal of Chappelle is his subtlety. He was making fun of white people in pretty scathing ways but had them laughing about it.

Chappelle's show along with a lot of other black comedians' stand-up is made for black audiences. You can't blame them if white audiences misunderstand and then misuse their commentary. Same thing with hip hop, the shyt is made for us, but others enter our cultural space and then think its cool to say nikka. Chris Rock's 'nikka vs. black people' bit wasn't permission for white folks to use the word, it's just their new justification for the shyt.

I agree that his show isn't helping race relations but I think he's smart enough to know that wouldn't have happened if he had approached the show differently.

do people not know who mel brooks is or are we just all choosing to ignore his work. let's act like he didn't put chappelle on at a tyson heavyweight champ age...ha. not just directed at you but at everyone. doesn't this cosign mean something serious when you look at someone that made 'the producers' and 'blazing saddles'.

BLACKEXCELLENCE in the purest form:salute:

I still :laff::laff::laff: when I see Rick James/Prince, Black Real World, Wu-Tang financial, the nikkards family, Negrodamus, and Making the Band parody :dead:

And, It takes a real person to leave 55million dollars on the table, for their pride:ohlawd:

his show was funny but i noticed with it that some white people began to say the word the ****** thinking it was all fun and games like in his show

white people saying ****** isn't the issue, tho. i'm trying hard to keep this out of the race track so forgive me if i sound combative.

the issue is how we react to it. and again, that isn't his fault. in fact, it's his job as a comic to cut to core, no?

Yeah a lot of skits I found to just skim the surface of issues without delving to deep into it because honestly when race gets brought up white people don't want to hear about it unless it affects them directly but all people selfish like that in a way. And yeah as a comic if he can reveal some truth from his observations I got no problem with it even if it steps on some peoples' toes but keep your pride and integrity... some of his skits had that "weird" vibe and I'm sure he picked up on it too as evidenced by his interviews after the end of the show.

For example, a skit I didn't like was the "****** Family", watching it I was :scusthov: and :snoop:.

Like I know he made fun of other people and cultures besides black people but it got to a point where I felt he had to talk about black people in a way that wasn't respectful. As if to make a mockery of what others see us as to get some laughs and of course money. I'll just say his intentions may have been sincere but the outcome wasn't as he probably expected. I believe I remember him saying in that Oprah interview "they began to laugh at me instead of with me."

Overall, his show is dam good though and I wish he kept going but :manny:

In my opinion his skits on the show were the best thing...but him just doing stand-up was never really good.

Most black people are in denial. Myself included especially when it comes to rap and it's effects. Chappelle show was c00ning no doubt. The black white supremacists, the usage of the n-word, the extradition of certain black folks out of the black race. shyt was terrible. Dave acknowledges it for what it is and so do I.
you're not blacc

One of the most important cultural contributions of our time TV/Comedy wise.

Also revealed to the world just how out of touch and insensitive the average white TV viewer is. As previously stated some of the skits were clearly controversial and made to get people to talk about the grander issue, instead we got a$$hole frat boys running around screaming they were rick james and saying nikka left and right.
