I'm glad richard pryor, redd foxxx is dead and never came around in this era..

Black People would be crying over richard pryor is going to far and redd foxxx should be ashamed of himself..

Black people today are to sensitive

are we, tho? our representation is minimal, man. we can't act like our race isn't still an issue. it's actually probably a bigger deal now than ever before.

:rudy: it's not about being sensitive. In all these years of comedians bringing their brand of satirical social commentary to the forefront has black/white or black/non-black relations gotten better?

Actually this is a perfect example of what has happened to black people. We allow non-black people into cultural spaces for them to mock, laugh and b*stardize and we are the ones left feeling like prostitutes. We think that making fun of ourselves or our plight is somehow making white people and other non-black people comfortable speaking about race but they never truly get it because they interpret it as "we aren't that serious". Racism and discrimination isn't a joke breh. It has real consequences and real people are affected by it.

"peanut butter and crack sandwich"? :wtf:

No but seriously the whole situation of characters like Tyrone Biggums. I can't put it into words exactly

Although I gotta admit moments like the whole "stepped on my sneakers" skit was a funny job of satire. But there were moments where I just thought why Black people gotta look like this for :snoop:

In hindsight the show should join the ranks of the 70s Blaxploitation movies of cringe worthy c00ning.

I think you missed the ENTIRE point.....those sketches were designed to be laughed at by black ppl b/c many of us have seen such things....with the situation turned up to the max, obviously. It was meant to be funny for us...not "c00ning" The sketches with the old blind black man who hates black ppl, calls them n*ggers, and loves white ppl. Most black ppl know someone like that, obviously not that extreme, but it's the same.

HOWEVER, Dave realized that the way white ppl see that stuff like that and the way black ppl traditionally laugh at black comedy are two different things. Dave had white ppl coming up to him afterwards freely using the "n" word around him and wanted him to find new ways to degrade black culture essentially. Which was not his intent to begin with.

That's why he quit.

No not at all. That's your job as an artist. If your message is lost you've failed breh and if you see that people aren't getting it, explain it better.

his message is obvious tho.

and @Cold Blooded the OP video was the newest thing i could find. listen to it b4 it's taken down. i anticipate that being flagged soon.

Our respresentation is minimal because we continue to blast a guy like chappelle who show was good and gave donnell rawlings and charlie murphy limelight into the mainstream and them guys the opportunity to do other shyt... same goes with eddie murphy giving chris rock a chance and look where he at.

Sanford and Son was suppose to be richard pryor show, but richard said nah.. he wanted redd foxx to do it or he wouldn't give it a second thought

black people still think we have a chance to overthrow the white man in a white man's world... u can only change it to a point.. which means get in your foot so much into the game and then give other young black talents the opportunity to come in and shine..

I know race is a issue, but that shyt isn't going to change

That was the biggest problem with his show but what do we have as an alternative? Guys like Paul Mooney will never have a big show like that because they are too straight with it. Is he funny? Yes, but TV execs would never give him a big budget because of his material. I think part of the appeal of Chappelle is his subtlety. He was making fun of white people in pretty scathing ways but had them laughing about it.

Chappelle's show along with a lot of other black comedians' stand-up is made for black audiences. You can't blame them if white audiences misunderstand and then misuse their commentary. Same thing with hip hop, the shyt is made for us, but others enter our cultural space and then think its cool to say nikka. Chris Rock's 'nikka vs. black people' bit wasn't permission for white folks to use the word, it's just their new justification for the shyt.

I agree that his show isn't helping race relations but I think he's smart enough to know that wouldn't have happened if he had approached the show differently.
