Curry is better. Their move the ball much better. Not as many iso's and Steph playing like he's Mark Jr.
They have Bogut.
Their healthy.

They were close the last couple of years. It's not like they came out of nowhere.

Kerr's staff certainly makes good adjustments at halftime and runs cleaner sets but honestly...a lot of it is luck/natural progression.

Last year Klay Thompson was still developing and Bogut was absent. Add Shaun Livingston and that right there is why the team is performing so well in the playoffs. Even Stephen Curry wasnt playing as well last year. Green however was beasting last postseason.

I think Mark could've got this team at least to where it is right now, and with all the injuries maybe the finals too. But I'm sure yall know about the butterfly effect. This is a perfect storm for the Warriors so i wouldnt change it anyhow. Hopefully Jackson can soon find work elsewhere

That's on Mark though, Draymond was obviously a better defender than Lee, but he never gave him a start with their current lineup. Mark was rigid and old school when it came to how the Warriors played.
This is true. The biggest difference is how they use Draymond, Bogut and Thompson. That is the major difference. Mark got more out of Lee and Iggy but less out of Thompson and Barnes. Green was progressing last year so I can't say Mark wouldn't have started him this year.

was Green really ready to start tho last year?

Harrison Barnes was still rising too, but didnt quite seem like he was ready until this year.
Why wasnt Green ready to start? We had enough evidence last year that he was a better defender than Lee.

Last year Jackson benched Barnes and made him the top scorer off the bench. He regressed because of that. Here is what Barnes said about the difference between Kerr and Jackson:

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/thompson/2014/12/05/resurgence-harrison-barnes/
Under Mark Jackson, Barnes was asked to be a scorer. Especially last year, when Barnes was moved to the Sixth Man role after the signing of Andre Iguodala, Barnes’ role was to carry the offense for the second unit. But most of his action was isolations. That just didn’t fit his game.

Before the season began, Kerr sat down with Barnes and went over film with him. Kerr explained where Barnes’ best spots were on the floor, where he should drift, where he should cut and how he wants him to exist in the Warriors’ potent starting lineup. Plus, Kerr started Barnes with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. That opens the floor for Barnes to cut and find creases to offensive rebound….

“It’s hard when you get the ball in an iso situation and you have a set defense in front of you,” Barnes said. “Very few players in the league can do that. You look at the best – Durant, Melo, those guys — look at what percentage they shoot. And that’s the best of the best, so you can imagine where I’m at. I’m like at 15, 20 percent on isos. To get me with the ball moving, getting me in different spots, playing off other people, that’s more of a strength for me right now. Going straight isos, that wasn’t a strength for me.”

@Malta @houston911 @mastermind other NBA heads, what difference do you think Kerr is making vs how much of it is just a natural progression of the players?

A couple years ago, the Warriors burst on the scene upsetting the Nuggets in the playoffs, then pushing the Spurs to 6 games in the 2nd rd. Then last season they lost in the 1st rd, but took the Clippers to 7 games and this was with Bogut being hurt in a couple games, if I recall. Otherwise they prob win that series too.

Now clearly, this year they're on another level offensively and are much better defensively as well. But does Kerr really deserve all the credit?
i dont think Kerr has been getting all the credit either btw. He didnt even win coach of the year and I dont exactly hear people remarking that he is the reason for this ascension.

Maybe the players just got better and are buying into their coach?

Didn't one of the players say Mark Jackson came across as a preacher instead of a coach.

They actually have an offense this year.
People will say that "the offense was there last year" but that offense was built to collapse against any good defense because of how ISO heavy it was. This offensive system is pure :whew: GS gets to their 3rd and 4th looks faster and cleaner than just about any other team in the league

The defense is stronk now too. Some of that is Green, but a lot of it is Bogut - and Mark was CONSTANTLY disrespecting the hell out of Bogut on both sides of the court last year.

Last year they were the third slowest team at moving the ball

The Yay
last year was all about iso ball. also kept playing david lee when it was obvious he was the weakest link on defense.
this year a lot more emphasis on ball movement. david lee thrown in the bushes for a defender who is much better (understatement, really) and is a very dynamic and versatile player. iggy comes off the bench. barnes starts and isnt asked to iso. no iso plays for bogut as well. livingston was a huge pickup

.

he did. lol

When they used to do the Wired soundclip things, he was moreso doing motivational speaking than anything else....but I do know he had problems with the front office, so maybe that was holding the team back.

I think Jackson was too old school & stubborn for his own good.

I will say the best thing they do now is ball movement and the backdoor screens to get open shots under the basket.

They're all better and don't have to spend anytime working on Chemistry. It's basically the equivalent of starting a Pokemon game with all of your starters at a minimum of level 50"
