Sounds good but you have spoiled kids from the 90's on here who didn't really have to struggle with much since computers and other technology were at their fingertips. They want to enjoy their easy access, their instant gratification without actually have to work to create a better social forum to discuss issues facing their lives. How would we keep them interested without being to "Educational", "Preachy", etc?
That deserves its own thread but the short answer is to speak their language while using African references. We need to control and represent ourselves correctly within our own media. Realistically, were still years away from that so for now, we do what we can, with what we got, until we have what we need.
In everything positive we do, know that it connects back to Africa, and the diaspora. Every group has conditioned their own to think highly of themselves, except us. I dont believe thats a mistake, and i believe thr conditioning can be reversed.
Know and be able to reference the great and powerful African kingdoms from 5000bc-1300ad. Africans were known for being much more than societies slaves, scapegoats, and entertainers.
Name names! Tariq Ibn Ziyad, Hannibal Barca, Imhotep, Moses, Ramesses III, Mansa Musa, Hatsepshut, Queen Makeda, Negus Ezana... We should know these people (and plenty more) like we know our favorite rappers lyrics. We should know these Africans better than we know the Alexdanders, Napoleons, Spartacus, etc etc.
Once we know who they are, we need to see them in movies, tv shows, video games, rap songs etc etc
We should cut (or at least reduce the use of) things we deem as "normal" out of our lives if they dont a) increase our self esteem as Black people, b) lead to our empowerment and knowledge of self.
Cut the cable. Find any and every positive Black program and back them up on your HD. Dudes got gazillion gigs of porn, music, movies, etcetc... Lets do the same for positive Black entertainment programs, books, lectures, and debates.
If you can help it, make sure the school curriculum promotes the positive contributions of Black/African people. And if the school refuses, join up with other like minded parents and start your own home school. This means us adults need to get back in our books, and potentially hire (Black) tutors.
Anytime something negative or scary would happen to Black people, I would reference Jim Crow, Apartheid, Conolese genocide, Israel sterilization of Ethiopian women and let them know the system is doing what its supposed to, and will continue to do until WE decide to change it. I never go into full details unless they ask, but I make sure they know how real it is. I suggest they look it up if they dont believe me. And i always reference OUR scholars and researchers.
Oh, and ostracize Black people whos actions show that they are against our progression. Theres a fine line to this because some of us are still asleep and jus need guidance. But there are agents, and history shows that they are just as dangerous as these white supremacists.
We all know the kids who go hard on other kids for being dark skinned, or having "nappy" hair (although ive noticed this reception to this trend getting better).... Imagine if agents/c00ns/uncle Toms got it as bad, and instead, the dark skinned child was seen as the standard of beauty and excellence
We'll also need protection. We dont want Tulsa happening again. The kids who are naturally attracted to gun play dont need to be scolded by us, they need to be shown the proper targets
Finally, we should realize and accept that some of us dont want to open our eyes, and some of us are content with how things are. Leave those ones to the wolves, dont let them discourage you, and keep them away from the youth who do want something better
TLDL: Relate to the kids by using the same brainwashing tools white supremacists have been using ( TV, Movies, Music, Education, Internet, Peer pressure), Once our economic game is up, we'll be able to produce our own media, educate in our own schools, rely on our own people, and continue to reach the kids in a progressive manner.
