Big Bad Wolves, an Israeli thriller that started making waves because Tarantino called it the best movie of 2013, whatever that might mean to you. There's a cop investigating a pedophile killer who's thrown of the case after a video of him beating up their prime suspect hits the web. He wants to kidnap the guy and force a confession out of him, but is interrupted by one of the murdered girls' fathers, who takes both of them to a shack in the middle of nowhere with his own plans to torture the guy. All the while there's no conclusive evidence that the guy even did the crimes, making the interplay between the three a complex and violent chess game. It's also filled with dark humor, which might help the movie more entertaining than it should be for what's essentially a torture porn movie, but also leaves it lacking in suspense and drama. Let's just say that Prisoners it is not. Regardless, in its respective genre (the dark comedic thriller) it's a solid entry, but it falls a bit flat in comparison to contemporaries such as 2011's brilliant Headhunters.
