Made it a double feature, Eastern Condors is dope and has probably one of the coolest ending fight sequences ever, There are alot of Martial Artists in this movie but they dont fight which kind of sucks however sammo hung and yuen biao take center stage when the fighting gets going, And I dont know, Is this a Sattire of a Vietnam Movie? Because it came out in 87 and its apocalypse now, the deer hunter, and First Blood 2 all rolled into one, Sammo decapitates heads and even shoves a grenade down a cats throat, talk about hardcore

Top 10, top 20 at worst film for me.

The reason why I think this is the best Lynch film (and I'm a HUGE fan of Mulholland Drive), is that whilst it has all the inherent weirdness and sinister dread of Lynch's other works, there's a grounded reality to it all. There's nothing supernatural or any real ambiguity between dreams and reality. And it's this reality that makes it all the more disturbing. These are real things that could and have happened anywhere. Deep down it's an examination of the weird and strange places human sexuality goes, manifested in Frank. Has a role ever been more perfectly cast than Hopper as Frank?

There's also real emotion in the film. The relationship between Maclachlan and Dern is genuinely heartfelt and pleasant, so it's not just another weirded out, claustrophobic Lynch head fukk. There's real human emotions at play here.

I also love how Lynch messes around with different genres and styles. Whilst this is an '80s film, for all intents and purposes it might as well be a '50s period film. Lynch's use of music is masterful and I love the '50s melodrama vibes throughout. Laura Dern's introduction in the film, stepping out of the darkness into the light whilst the sappy Hollywood orchestral score plays is such an amazing moment.

Film just doesn't get any more satisfying than this IMO.
I LOL everytime during that scene when the broad walks up naked and beat up onto derns lawn and the bully's are all

"WHOSE THAT YOUR MOM??? :childplease:........:whoa:....Sorry!"

A few things

Nashville

I had seen this a couple of times previously but I've never been able to give it my full attention until now and this shyt is fukking INCREDIBLE. Definitely one of Altman's best. It's something I think I'll need to watch several times to really get the gist of what Altman is saying about America and politics but it's a deep, complex film but hilarious and entertaining in that Altman way. It's chaotic and rambling but so entertaining. The live performances are great too if you can fukk with country music.

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie

I'm beginning to think this might be my favorite film. Cassavettes is my favorite filmmaker and a total inspiration. But what to say about this film....it's just stunning. I love offbeat crimes films like this. Like all Cassavettes films it's raw and completely authetic and flawlessly acted. The shyt just brings a tear to my eye how good it is. Cassavettes left us way too soon :mjcry:

Paris, Texas

Another all-time favorite. Dat cinematography :banderas: Dat soundtrack :blessed: Harry Dean fukking Stanton :jawalrus: Natasha Kinski :shaq:

Repo Man

Another Harry Dean Stanton classic. Just one of those perfectly executed crazy cult movies. Shame Alex Cox wasn't able to keep up this quality.

Cruising

This shyt is so slept on. I'm a big fan of William Friedkin. He's done a lot of underrated work post-The Exorcist. This is a weird film. Some of the sexual politics are little awkward but this is one grimey fukking movie. It's got that ill late 70s/early 80s grimey NYC setting which is enough to make any film watchable. To me this is one of the great undercover cop movies. It really goes into the psychology of the cop and Pacino's performance is very subdued and understated. The murder sequences are straight up :merchant:. Few directors go as raw as Friedkin.

Summer with Monika

Nice early Bergman classic. Reminded me of Blue Valentine. So if you liked that I'd recommend it.

The Birds

I don't think this is up there with Hitchcock's REAL classics (Vertigo, Notorious, North By Northwest etc) but it's still pretty great. I like how Hitchcock can elevate a Roger Corman esque b-movie plot to high quality cinema. It's still pretty dumb in places though and I don't think the cast are quite on the level of other Hitchcock films. Rod Taylor ain't no Jimmy Stewart but it's still a very entertaining him.

Fading Gigolo...

people may be shocked to know, there were several scenes where Woody Allen is around several black kids in this.
just for anyone that remembered the whole Woody Allen doesn't work with blacks thread.

...also watched They Came Together.
