I can see why it might have been divisive to some, with what Garland chose to focus on and what some might have been expecting. I did think it was shot really well and I enjoyed it more than Men.

U Turn (1997) - 7.5/10

This whole movie from the music to Oliver’s signature in scene cuts to the acting is just sublime. Stone legitimately had fun making this because the way I was entertained :dead:

Le Samourai (1967) - 8/10

I noticed the influencers immediately with The Transporter, David Fincher’s The Killer & a little bit of Drive. I also can see why Drive got the criticisms it did.

This film is the definition of meticulousness and honestly takes itself too seriously. I really appreciate the older films and their commitment to story & character building but we do not need a scene where doors are being checked for neighbors, a door is unlocked, walking around in an apartment, going through keys, placing an object and locking a door all of which spanned for damn near 3 minutes. I kept saying to myself a good 30 minutes of this shyt could’ve been edited out.

The good tho, goddamn the dialogue is fantastic, the colors work perfectly to capture Jef and the bleakness around him, the single camera use is very effective with getting those one take scenes. It felt like every frame was valuable with the lack of cuts. The plot is very good, doesn’t hold your hand and I loved the ambiguity of the ending.

Husbands and Wives (1992) - 8.5/10

Dialogue. Dialogue. Dialogue.

You FEEL like they’re talking, it doesn’t have a movie sense to it in the context of, you say a line then I say a line, rinse and repeat. I’m not sure if this begun in the 80’s, 90’s or even the 70’s but goddamn this felt like people you knew having actual conversations. Blow Out was mentioned on the previous page and THAT movie comes to mind when you think of flowing conversations like the ones presented in this.

This is my first time watching a Woody Allen film and I gotta give him his flowers for this.

One last thing, I’ll try not to spoil but there’s a character in this and……he’s never beating the allegations :skip:

Definition of returning to the scene of the crime :russ::russ:

I think I'm seen Wicked in the theatre 5 times now. I'm gonna stop. Promise :troll:. This shyt is mad addicting. Every time I go, I see more and more solo viewers who obviously have seen it before as well. If that keeps happening, this movie is gonna make so much money. And I don't feel bad about spending it all. This feels like the summer of 2003 all over again when I saw Spiderman 2 several times and had to force myself to stop. And now they have released sing a long version for fans who want to be free to sing with the movie lol. Oh god. I might have to check one of those out :pachaha:

But more seriously, there's so much to love about this movie. The set designs are gorgeous. You can tell Chu used mostly practical effects because it all looks like something from another world. Speaking of Chu, he's just a genius with the way he put these scenes together and brought them to screen. I wasn't a super fan of the play but this movie brings certain songs and scenes to life that fall flat on the stage. The singing and choreography are top notch. Ariana and especially Cynthia shine in a way I don't think many others could in these roles. They better both get Oscar nominations because they put their foot into it. And that finale is unmatched. The last 20 minutes is just pure cinema magic. George Lucas actually called Chu on the phone from the mall to tell him how much he enjoyed it. First of all George Lucas going to the mall to see Wicked is pretty wild, but I think for him to be impressed by a fantasy movie is a testament in itself. So yeah go see Wicked. Obviously, it's a 10/10 for me.

9/10, though I'm not moving any films off my top 10 film of the year list. @Mr Hate Coffee

This movie is yt women goes on vacation yo get effed. But with a twist. One thing I have about mysteries is the explanation. Once the mystery Is revealed, it loses its allure. They should just forget the explanation and get to the orgy.

I saw Babygirl on Christmas Eve. As someone who used to be heavily involved in the BDSM lifestyle, I appreciate what this film was trying to do. I’m not sure if it stuck the landing though. There’s a lot of heady psychological stuff that’s hard to convey and even more difficult to translate to vanilla audiences. Then it’s all tangled up in real moral issues related to fidelity, trust, and truth. I guess though all of that mess underscores how strong and integral these sexual proclivities are for some. Do people have to sacrifice everything else for this one thing? If you give up or suppress that one thing are you truly living? I like that it makes you reflect on that but some of the dialogue and directing choices were distracting and pulled me out of the story, making it feel more academic than immersive and authentic. Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas gave their all. I didn’t really buy Harris dikkerson as an amateur young Dom but he did OK. It definitely needed more sex though especially since the trailer kinda promised audiences that. Felt kinda like we got short changed on that. 7/10

This was a fun watch. Always here for a fun anime that has nothing to do with teens training to fight demons or something.

Simple premise, but executed fairly well for the grounded budget. Not sure if they went the crowd-funded way like they did for the 1st film. Does have some great robotic dog action that manages to be tense.
