Your mum make green banana or plantain porridge? Tom brown?

YES we eat plantain porridge all the time lol. Sometimes she puts yams in it, and shrimp. I love when we use palm oil.

Mac and Cheese is not soul food...... it was not started by anyone remotely African

Serious question....what is considered soul food? I grew up in an Area with Afro Caribbeans, Africans, and African Americans. So we ate all types of food. At the same time what is considered soul food? Can you please provide some examples.

Well. I guess that's my point. I never really subscribed to the whole "soul\slave" food narrative to begin with. What guys are attempting to describe in here has everything to do with an income issue. Fried chicken isn't soul food... neither is Mac and Cheese or fried catfish, etc... Its just shyt people like to eat cause it tastes good....

:laff: I don't know if I should be offended that people are calling Mac and Cheese soul food.

My grandma made real soul food, grows vegetables and everything herself and she's in her 90s and in better health than me. :mjcry: It all depends on how you cook it. And when you take into account the fact that those commenting are not even of black American slave descent, you can't expect them to know that shyt.

Yes... Some times we will. I grew up on soul food but it wasn't deep fried in lard and covered in gravy. Every night we had a meat and three veggies and we rarely had fast food. My granddaddy and my stepdaddy both had veggie gardens in the summer. So I had a crap load of fresh veggies during the summer months. The only thing about growing up in my house hold is my mama is an avid baker. She is always making cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, homemade rolls etc... And she passed that love of baking down to me.

80% of products in stores have some sort of "high fructose corn syrup" . I dont know why you worried about soul food and "fats" . Fructose is the shyt you need to worry about . Excessive fructose leads to diabetes and all kinds of shyt

Diabetes has increased WORLDWIDE since the introduction of HFCS. Alcohol is VERY similar to Fructose
