I have nothing against military and even have some members of my family that served. But for me black pride and black issues will always come first before national pride.

I think sometimes people forget that it wasn't long ago that are ancestors were being hung and fighting white oppression. Hell my grandfather was preacher and helped set up protest and Marches for the civil rights movement.

what say you?

I personally am not into flag burning but the topic is should you be in prison for burning fabric that represents the nation.

The answer, is no.

Why outside of basic common sense.

because of free speech.

Is there already a prescedent for this?
Yes, a Supreme Court ruling

Should Congress, in our current climate be looking to overturn that ruling with my tax dollars?
No.
Why?
Because flag burning is not part of some current revolution that's taking place with a chance at overthrowing the government.

Is there any good reason this should be on the table right now?

I can't think of one at the moment.

So really this issue is plucked out of thin air to further energize a specific group of people.

Who?

Nazi sympathizers like you who don't truely believe in American values?
Possibly.

No matter what your property is, you have a right to destroy it, even if its a symbolic gesture of your displeasure with government.

Jail? Its foolish. A fine for a public disturbance? I can see that because publicly burnin things can be dangerous .

I guess government critics will be the next to be jailed.

For one, I never said prison, so I just want to clear that up.

I get your point breh. Like I said, I meant punishment as a small fine. Also, I don't get why people are flooding me with negs. Sometimes, I feel the coli isn't the site to be on when you want an intellectual debate. Oh yeah, my username has been the same for two years now. Don't take my Rubio avi seriously :heh:

TBH, nothing happens if you don't pay the fine. Mainly, it's just empty talk, but the maximum fine would be set at 50 bucks :manny: Like I said, I try to be objective and reasonable as I can on here.
50 dollar fine to you maybe "small" but to others its a big deal. and if nothing happens if you don't pay...then whats the point?

you want to have "serious debates" on here, but you have a troll...slightly racist username. Judge Joe Gorilla in which your avi used to be a picture of a Black man Joe Brown who is a judge.

and even now, you have I guess another troll avi with Rubio, since you say don't take it serious...but you want people to have serious debates with you?

you either a troll or not man, ain't no half way.

What? My name is a knockoff of Joe Brown's. However, if my name is "racist" as a Black poster. Then, @BmoreGorilla is a racist too :snoop: Most people on this site know what I look like. So, that line doesn't even hold any value anymore. Majority of the site know who I am. That's one reason why I'm more serious now. A Rubio avi offends you? I just like the swag in the pic no homo :dame: I've discussed real issues and gave my solutions to them. You're fighting the wrong guy. You should fight guys like @ThreeLetterAgency who give you Neo-Liberal views.

I will say that it's offense when we don't stand together as one. TBH, I find it offense when a brotha says, "What up my n-gga". That word has a negative connotation to me and I'LL NEVER use it again. I'd slap my kid if he or she said it.

I'll reply here and be done with this. no shyt the name is a "knockoff" of his name, thats what I said. what Black man in his right mind, who considers himself a serious person would use the name judge joe gorilla in reference to a Black judge?

I didn't say you were racist, I said IT was. you're being obtuse or stupid.
the rubio avi doesn't "offend" me. you do you.

I use to call myself GorillaWitAttitude on the IC. TBH, I used to troll there because the site was lame. This was two and a half years ago. I tried to mix the two names together. Maybe my attempt was bad, but it's my posting quality that counts. I've donated here and gave reasonable and healthy solutions about our community. We gotta put beefs and etc aside to work together. Maybe I'm too honest, but most of y'all know how I really feel. Like I said, this is the real life version of me besides the username. Every thing I say on here I mean (I don't post for daps). On some issues we won't agree with each other. However, we should all have one common goal. No malice is disrespect to you brotha.

"What do you guys think? I differ on this issue because I had family in the military. "

That's there 1! That's their 1! Anytime somebody protests people got to pull US troops out they azz!

:stopitslime:

As a us army veteran (31F fort hood,tx) I am in no way offended by flag burning. I joined to pay for college. I know some dudes who joined to avoid jail, the mob, revenge, escape their gang, get out of momma's house, etc. Stop romanticizing that BS. People haven't protested against troops heavily since Vietnam, and that was mostly about them pulling out of that country.

Listen, as many know I'm centre-left on social issues :francis: However, I consider myself a Progressive on economics :jawalrus: However, with this flag burning thing I think some type of criminal penalty should happen. Yeah, I know that it's protected as freedom of speech, but that's just too far :hubie: In my opinion, I'm all for protesting unjust laws. I continue to do it all the time. With pushing prison/criminal justice reform and ending income inequality :manny: I just always felt that flag-burning is regressive. That's just my opinion. It solves nothing and is non-productive.

What do you guys think? I differ on this issue because I had family in the military. Yeah, the U.S. has been involved in over-throwing Democratic-elected leaders and i'm AGAINST THAT. I'd rather the U.S. be isolated from war in other countries. ESPECIALLY, the middle-east. My view is, that war should be the LAST resort. However, my ancestors and other groups helped build this country off of their backs.

Tell me what you think.

Thanks for your service breh and making your family proud (being a leader for your community) :salute: Glad that you posted your view as a vet. I understand that point of view also. BOTH sides have legitimate claims in my opinion.
