We absolutely have to stop perpetuating this idea that impeachment is somehow helpful to Trump. Impeachment proceedings are not going to make anyone who is not already planning on voting for him more sympathetic to his re-election.

You're under estimating moderates and supporters who normally don't vote. Fear mongering makes gullible minds form together like voltron. They will use impeachment and claim it's a coup attempt by a corrupt party. I'm not saying it will be 100% successful, but it's not an inept strategy either.

I'm sorry but that's a hell of a long shot for moderates who didn't like Hillary or Trump in 2016 to vote for him in 2020 off the strength of D's "picking on him". Especially since he's accomplished nothing for them politically. They've already been through the try before you buy stage.

What I always wonder when you look at these vote results is, how many of those 'No' votes were simply no's for the sake of voting with the party while knowing the yes vote was safe?

Because Trump has survived every scandal, he's become teflon and set a very very high standard for any scandal to have real consequences on him. The only things that can remove him from office is conspiracy with Russians which Mueller said didnt happen, or money laundering and fraud charges on his organization, or he's named as an unindicted co conspirator on his children financial charges.
Anything less and some people may believe Democrats took it a step too far impeachment wise because it's not enough to effect him. They may be warped into the Trump fear mongering propanganda of Democrats overstepping and trying to take out Trump.
You hold him accountable by holding public hearings with witnesses to show the public how corrupt he's been to damage Trump's re election bid in 2020. Also to show the public why the Democrats need to take the Senate since the Republicand have protected Trump. Pretty simple.
