Because they bought into the idea of Trump being an economic populist who was for unions and against their primary enemy, global trade deals. Which they feel is what has gutted their local job structure - they aren't exactly wrong about that. It has been the Koch brothers collective mission to kill collective bargaining, the GOP has significantly weakened private unions and have now targeted the public ones.

They are vulnerable voters and their immediate concern is their short term well being instead of their long term existence.
