In all fairness that was backstage politics at play, Hunter being punished for that curtain call shyt

And Warrior was booked as the new improved Hogan who also buried finishers

The curtain call happened months after that match

If that's the case I stand corrected

Thought I read something saying that's why HHH was squashed like that

Only thing that made sense, now I'm just :dahell:

He was squashed because he was a nobody in March of '96 and Warrior is one of the biggest stars in the companys history. shyt, prior to this, I'm pretty sure HHH was feuding with Henry Godwinn, that should tell right there where he was on the totem pole at that time.

Actually, it was Duke "The Dumpster" Droese. :russ:

His feud with Godwinn was before that.

Think the story goes (at least according to Bruce Prichard) that their match was originally gonna go longer with HHH getting more offensive in, but literally before they were about to go out Warrior was like "nah...we're gonna just do a squash". He politic'd at the last minute and they just had to roll with it.

a minute ago, you were claiming that the fans tuned out already.
now youre saying "we don't know what would've happened".
which one is it?
if warrior stayed, they would've put the belt on him by the fall, rather than him briefly appearing on raw once every couple weeks to carry out a warm-up storyline with goldust or a comedy feud with jerry lawler.
at the very least, they would've held their own against WCW, rather than str8 getting their asses kicked.
The fans started to tune out once the initial buzz of Warrior returning wore off - check the ratings. Then once Hogan turned, then no one was officially checking for RAW anymore with or without Warrior being there.

And they didn't put the belt on Warrior in 1992 when he was there from April to October, why would they put it on him in 1996?

You also forgot that they went out of business shortly after

So how would Warrior being WCW world champ have been worse than Hogan hogging the belt while only allowing transitional reigns in between his?

Warrior being WCW world champ would have been better booking than the fingerpoke of doom. :umad:

WCW itself was fire in the late 90's but it's world title scene went from Hogan having the belt for the better part of the late 90s to random reigns in between.

Warrior would have made it no worse. And if anything Hogan beating Warrior for the title would have made more sense.

Had he played his cards right he woulda been bigger than Hogan especially if he stepped up his in ring game. But he was so over he didn't really have to :yeshrug:

yea. theres so much that could've been done with the warrior in both promotions in the late 90s/early 00s.

most of these dudes arguing don't really know about the warrior all like that.

half/most of this board is wwf attitude babies. they weren't really around yet when the warrior was regularly active in the WWF. nor did they really watch WCW.

most these dudes in this thread are just guessing and regurgitating talking points from the self-destruction dvd, and dapping each other. its the coli way.

He wasn't drawing in '96 and the creative direction of the industry as a whole was rapidly moving away from the era that Warrior thrived in. Him in WCW in 98 showed how out of place he was in that era, and he was mostly among his contemporaries. They dodged a bullet by not signing him in 97.

you clearly werent a WCW fan. how did he not fit into WCW, when he was the missing piece of the puzzle that they were trying to get at for years?? it was to the point where WCW even tried to create their own warrior. but let you revisionists tell it, the warrior didnt fit in.

:deadmanny:

and he was over in WCW. the only negative was that his match with Hogan bombed, but that entire PPV was a disappointment.

as for the WWF, I just gave numerous examples of him drawing in '96. and just because things are changing, it doesn't mean that he cant thrive in the next era.
especially seeing how his c-span promos were harder than most of the promos in the attitude era.
they ended up in a position where they didnt need him, but they didn't dodge any bullet by not signing the warrior.

I don't have to check anything. I was there to know why the initial buzz wore off.

warrior briefly appeared twice a month. you knew he was gonna be on every other raw, and he wasn't gonna be on there long.
of course the people who were tuning in solely or mainly to see the warrior, weren't avid viewers.

and if you were an og warrior fan, who still watched wrestling, chances are you were more inclined to watch nitro. I remember when the nba playoffs were going on and nitro was pre-empted. the wwf had the chance to do something meaningful with warrior, and all we got was a quick promo. the next week, he wasn't on the show at all. in fact, the biggest thing they got around to doing with the warrior on TV was announcing that he was gonna be in the big 6-man tag at IYH. then he got fired soon after.

its well-known that vader was gonna get a transitional run, then hot-shot the belt to the warrior.

the difference between WWF in '96 & '92?? in '92 they had bigger stars, and WCW didn't have them on the ropes about to apply the knockout punch.
