You are right on almost all accounts. When you put the numbers up, 3.3 (I think it actually ended up being a 3.4) and 2.7 may not seem that far apart. But when you look at the viewership, you're talking about losing an average of a million viewers. Pretty significant.
Ratings matter. They do reflect the pulse of the industry and we all care about that. Plus, the shyt is garbage...so in a way, I'm glad the decrease in viewership reflects that.
As I've said in the past, it's just funny that nobody ever thought to scrap the ratings discussion until they took a turn for the worst under Punk's reign. Never saw those types of posts when Cena, Dave, Orton, Miz, Sheamus were holding the belt.
And all those guys had low points of ratings in their runs (take out Miz though, come on, his whole life is a low point), all of their lowest points were to me, never at the level of Punk.
I mean there look at this account:
After the third hour of Monday's WWE RAW lost a staggering 638,000 viewers from the second hour, there is a lot of concern about how Vince McMahon will react. Especially because McMahon was out of the country and not running the show, it will be easier to assign blame to others.
I mean that is ridiculous, and to have the lowest overrun gain in the history of RAW last week (after advertising his celebration for 3 hours), this is all a recipe of disaster. They advertised CM Punk vs Kane for 2 hours and this is what they got. No one is tuning in to see Punk fight anyone. Part of is booking/writing, part of is CM Punk, he just doesn't have that super interesting "it" quality. He is just there.
