When you put the numbers up, 3.3 (I think it actually ended up being a 3.4) and 2.7 may not seem that far apart. But when you look at the viewership, you're talking about losing an average of a million viewers. Pretty significant.

Ratings matter. They do reflect the pulse of the industry and we all care about that. Plus, the shyt is garbage...so in a way, I'm glad the decrease in viewership reflects that.

As I've said in the past, it's just funny that nobody ever thought to scrap the ratings discussion until they took a turn for the worst under Punk's reign. Never saw those types of posts when Cena, Dave, Orton, Miz, Sheamus were holding the belt.
You are right on almost all accounts.

And all those guys had low points of ratings in their runs (take out Miz though, come on, his whole life is a low point), all of their lowest points were to me, never at the level of Punk.

I mean there look at this account:

After the third hour of Monday's WWE RAW lost a staggering 638,000 viewers from the second hour, there is a lot of concern about how Vince McMahon will react. Especially because McMahon was out of the country and not running the show, it will be easier to assign blame to others.

I mean that is ridiculous, and to have the lowest overrun gain in the history of RAW last week (after advertising his celebration for 3 hours), this is all a recipe of disaster. They advertised CM Punk vs Kane for 2 hours and this is what they got. No one is tuning in to see Punk fight anyone. Part of is booking/writing, part of is CM Punk, he just doesn't have that super interesting "it" quality. He is just there.

splitting hairs over 3.1's and 3.0's is one thing, but we've got quarters of the long-reigning champ in a match doing 2.3's and overruns doing 2.6's. What the fukk is the business coming to where this is OK? That the presentation of wrestling has advanced so much but these are the results is troubling.

I want this to still be around when I'm raising my son. That WWE still draws when Rock or Brock are around tells me that it's saveable, just that things need to seriously change, starting with the racist dirtbag that doesn't look like he could beat half the fans being pushed as the top guy.

Exactly what I was trying to say. I wasn't comparing anything they did to Punk's current tank...but acknowledging that those guys have all been ridiculed for the numbers at one point or another without any of the "ratings don't matter" talk. It'd be funny to pull up the :hamster: and search all of the ratings discussions.

Listening to the podcast, Meltz said the quarter drop wasn't Punk's fault :dead:
Sandow and Ryder did a 2.2  The main event gained to the overrun.

Nah I just heard it, they discussed how bad his quarters have been. They blamed Punk but didn't come out and say it and kind of talked around it, because Meltz still gets inside info from him.

They said the quarter with Sandow and Ryder was a 2.2, the quarter with Punk/Kane went up to like a 2.3, and the overun (which always does amazing) ended up a 2.6. So again, it could be the worst overun EVER.

Let's not make excuses, but state facts, like they could put a Hornswoggle and Khali dance off in that quarter and it would gain viewers, but this is not that, this is the year long WWE champion.

How is Punk supposed to single-handedly get Attitude era ratings?

:dwillhuh: How about doing well in HIS OWN segments? That would be a start.. I like how you have shifted the argument to "Attitude Era ratings"... What? His overruns have been the worst EVER. fukk Attitude Era. Can he even beat out Ruthless Aggression?

Regularly having some of the highest-rated segments week to week doesn't count. :heh: Ratings aside and more importantly, he "does well" by almost always being one of the rare bright spots on an otherwise terrible, overlong show.
