It's a sad situation, but If that's the case, I can't fault the officer.

Neither than I. You point some shyt like that at me or mine, I'm going to pop you, too, and ask questions later.

HOWEVER. Even assuming the police were telling the truth (which I doubt), they were in the wrong for coming out with guns blazing. The caller told you that the shyt was probably fake, and the kid was sitting on some fukking swings. How about, "Hey, how's it going?" or "Can we talk to you for a minute?" with your guns HOLSTERED. Then you can explain how someone called it in, and that's why you don't take the orange safety off that shyt, and everybody goes about their merry-ass way. How hard is that!?

Honestly that's probably exactly what he was trying to do.

I'd love to see what people think should be the officers punishment.
This is where you use common sense that just maybe this little boy WHO HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG is trying to show me the gun is fake, because well, the look in his eyes is one of straight up fear that he doesn't want to get shot.

When it's all said and done, this is what the cop will have to live with most. He's knows in his heart that kid had no malice thoughts towards him and he still shot twice and put a 12 year done for nothing. That will haunt that man far longer than the time those on the net try to make the case that this was a justified shooting. No amount of tempered police jargon press conferences will save him from a legacy like that.

The caller told the dispatcher it was "probably" fake. But what's "probably" fake mean in the context of this situation. Let's say that without a shadow of a doubt the cop knew or had an inkling the weapon was "probably" fake. Is he suppose to let the kid pull the weapon out of his pants? what about if its not fake? Then the Cop is a dead man who blew his chance of stopping the suspect by giving up his tactical advantage. This whole shyt is a shade of grey. Ain't no black and white.

Probably doesn't mean is fake.

An officer injured himself while they were coming up on that boy too.:stopitslime:
The whole situation stinks like hell, and hopefully that tape drops. These police forces are far too militarized, especially when they come into black communities. We get the brunt of that shyt.
The dude who called the popo could tell the gun was fake from across the street!
Again, the guy only said it twice, and he said probably, which was a reasonable assumption since it was a kid on a swing. What people are ignoring is he said the kid was scaring people. That gun didn't look like the orange plastic ones I was fukking with back in the day. We can only assume the cops came at that boy guns drawn, and shyt fell apart from there. Absolute fukkups.

The incompetence of the Police Force in our country is astounding.

We can't subdue a 12 year old holding a BB Gun. There is no accountability and the standard for defusing a situation without deadly force is low.
Also the kid didnt do anything wrong. Thsts a huge part of the story

why be competent when you can live out your Call of Duty dreams, get paid leave and NOT have any consequences....
