They didn’t have a choice. lol that draft class still operating off of potential. The rockets the only team standing on business with extensions. Neither Sengun or Jalen got theirs yet..

Lol I saw a tweet last month where An insider said none of the teams(Orlando, Detroit, and Toronto) were really excited to extend the lottery picks of that class but really didn’t have much other choice. Especially Detroit. A strong argument can be made that none of those dude are worth that extension. Houston making Jalen earn it but if he has another year like year with the inconsistency they’ll probably trade him or giv who lower contract extensions. If Snegun was a high lottery pick, I believe he would’ve been extended already but since he was mid round pick his cap hold is really low, which gives Houston more flexibility next summer sign another big contract before extending Sengun.

I can’t wait to see what GSW does with Kuminga
They all had a choice. There was nothing wrong with waiting until restricted free agency next year.

And those players still would have gotten the max and cost even more under the new CBA.
I get it. That’s the way the NBA rolls. These agents and the union makes sure all players are understand the game. Cool.

STILL, the Cavs and Magic could have waited. Bump the potential. If Mobley and Wagner were in the open market today, how much are they getting?

Is Mobley right now better than Claxton? I think he got 25M a year.
:dwillhuh:
Wagners shot fell off the cliff. OG got 200M+ and I’d rate Wagner better. The Knicks massively overpaid OG. Philly was waiting in the but Knicks could have offered him 4 for 160M and let him shop himself.

The game is the game. Shout out to these agents getting these players these deals. It just sucks when your favorite team gets hamstrung with players that are worth their contract.

A team would have still thrown Mobley a max contract as the only reason he isn't a 20-10 guy right now is because he doesn't have the greenlight like his other draft peers. Rookie extensions are based on potential and future expected performance. Posters tend to forget that important detail.

Claxton could have gotten more than he did had he just waited. That was on him and his team for rushing that deal as there were teams that coveted his services.

OG would have gotten that same deal from Philly had they lost out on PG, so the Knicks were going to end up overpaying either way.

Cleveland bout to be in the Apron with a middle of the pack team. I think we going to see more owners sell their teams or majority stake with these new cba cap rules, and these rise in contracts.

Yep, Boston laid the blueprint and these lesser teams will try and mimic their trajectory despite having only a fraction of the top level talent they started out with thanks to the historic Billy King fleecing. Max out every main rotation player no matter how bad they are in reality based off "potential" or "loyalty", bang your head against the wall for 2-3 years during your "window" of so-called contention you haphazardly forced yourself into early thanks to your inflated team payroll... then c(r)ash out when the apron penalties start kicking in force and leave the mess you created for some oligarch exponentially richer than you were when you bought the team years ago to clean up. :pachaha::unimpressed:

Facts! They are selling as a winner of these past finals, and a heavy favorite to repeat next season. Imagine a team being a middle of the pack or not being playoff material paying these fines. MJ and Mark Cuban no longer look funny for selling when they did. They knew what was about to happen, and took action.

These deals were happening even before the new CBA, so I wouldn’t blame that or Boston for it :mjlol:

Hell Ayton is on a 4 year max and the only reason he didn’t get the full 5 was because the Suns didn’t want to give it to him, so this is nothing new.

Isn't that mostly due to them wanting a max slot this offseason?
