would have been nice if Meth got em, but still ODB did more than a great job. Whole album captured his essence perfectly, from the weird throat sounds, to the drunken singing, to the funny ad-libs, to all the in-studio fukk ups and repeating verses. Loved it.
Nobody in the Wu coulda did what he did with Shimmy Shimmy Ya.
Dude absolutely bodied that track spitting the same verse twice:wow:
It's a goat track and who hasn't sat at a piano or key board and played it ?

I don't understand how Wu Forever isn't a classic

Let AEOM get classic status brehs, not not this superior double disc LP
:mindblown:

AEOM is better than Forever by far, and I'm not even a Pac fan like that. AND I'll take Wu's best material over Pac's by far.

Neither is classic tho

Tbh if we took the best Forever tracks, it's probably a better album than 36

No it wouldn't :dahell: Not even close.

It's just so much more complete, but you're right it is more about perception and the step down in rawness from 36. That whole gritty aesthetic disappeared and gave way to a more polished outlook

But nobody can deny the rhymes are 10000000 times better on Forever. Like the peak of rap as an art form. Impeccable song writing and lyricism and all the Wu members had a substantial say, unlike U-God and MK getting close to nothing on 36.

Wu Forever was a slow burner for me, but damn when it clicked, IT CLICKED. Masterpiece.

Your right about the lyrics. Forever was lyrical overload. Ghost had one of the GOAT verses on Impossible

and the beats are 1000000 times better on 36 Chambers. Funny how, when the smoke clears (no Ghost), it's beat selection that influences longevity the most.

I haven't heard "Forever" in full since '98. I've never heard anyone go "yo, that Forever album :whew: I've been bumping that shyt nonstop breh!" Classic cuts on there for sure (my favorite is still Cash Rules from what I remember), but the whole thing classic? nah

A lot of wu "fans" tend to wear the blinkers in hi ki resemblance to eminem fans. I tend to ignore their consensus. Forever was bland like day old cold rice to me :yeshrug:

It's hilarious you say this. I listened to this album in full today for the first time in a while. This shyt is BLAND AS fukk. The only track that moved me from :russell: to :ehh: was Hellz Wind Staff and Cash Still Rules (as always)

This is the truth. I thought what RZA did with this album, was mind blowing. This production on this album fits ODB like a glove. When you consider how crazy ODB is and the shyt he was doing on this album, props to RZA.

I can understand people calling it a classic and people slating it as well to be honest. ODB is one of a kind and even some of the shyt that is just plain wrong, it just seems so right.

Personally, i love this album. But putting my personal thoughts aside, would i feel comfortable calling it a classic hip hop album? I'm not sure i would.

36 Chambers is set in hop hop history.

Wu Forever - classic. I don't say that lightly either, I think it's the shyt.

I've seen people throw dirt on dog shyt ....... ODB has me in tears on that track. Hooooooooooooooooo!

@SirBiatch well beat preferences are subjective

Wu Forever has held up WAY better than 36 Chambers, and to me honestly, it sounds better as well. This sounds weird, but I love 36 Chambers because of the lyrics. That's what keeps me interested more so than the production. Da Mystery of Chessboxin production doesn't make me marvel anymore. The whole gritty, shytty sounding aesthetic has worn off by now.

I'm not trying to devalue 36 by any means, it is the better album and one of the GOATs. But it isn't the actual production that keeps me interested. Some of it though is still immense e.g. Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin and Shame on a nikka and Bring Da Ruckus and CREAM etc.

Wu Forever has sublime production. Honestly I'm amazed. And it sounds so new and polished and sounds like it could have come out about 10 years ago if not 5.

Not to mention, lyrically is far superior. Songwriting was better because it wasn't just a bunch of battle raps anymore (or at least ALL the time). 36 had like 3 songs dedicated to anything but brag/battle rap. Wu Forever is filled with more directive song writing. The lyricism is obviously a step up from 36, they just went better and better from 36 to Wu solos to this album.

The balance of verses is much fairer, and I think really shows that verse for verse, the likes of U-God and Masta can hang with the very best. They got close to nothing on 36. My only gripe is I wanted more GZA on Wu Forever.

36 can only really be seen to be better for two reasons: production (subjective) and it is 11 tracks of the highest quality (condensed material). As I said, if Wu wasn't a double album and we really took the best tracks, it would at the very least match 36 Chambers for quality, independent of instrumental preferences.

And Wu Forever is far better than AEOM, less filler and the peak tracks are better. But I'm a Wu fan, no doubt I have some bias.
