So it's OK to hand out classics like stds to Jay?

you say that as if 2 wasn't reasonable

Jay has more classics than Nas. At the very least his discography is generally superior. This needs to be taught in schools nationwide.

First off. Leaving his Def Jam Catalogue off of the poll is misleading and offensive to Nas's discography and overall body of work. When we are discussing ICONIC Artists of the genre (Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim, 2Pac, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Outkast) we MUST include their entire bodies of work for debate and perspective (in Pac and Biggie's case, posthumous albums can be left out)

Secondly, I have spoken at length on which Nas albums I consider classics, and though I am considered THE ultimate Nas Stan on these boards and uphold him as the unquestioned GOAT, contrary to popular belief I don't feel as if EVERY single album he's ever released is a classic. For the albums of his that I uphold as classics, and shining examples of what the GREATNESS that the genre has to offer, I present these think pieces

Illmatic is an undisputed classic and NEEDS no introduction.

It Was Written I go back and forth on. Some times I listen and want to call it Classic hands DOWN, but other times I think it SLIGHTLY misses the mark and is a 4.75 Mic album, I might make a thread on it one day. I also have plans to make an in depth appreciation thread for Stillmatic in the near future...

Also, simply because an album isn't CLASSIC doesn't mean it's an album that needs to be dismissed or isn't a fantastic album in its own right. For my thoughts on particularly strong Nas albums that aren't quite classic, but still excellent works of the genre see the following

How does he have more when the only real classic between them is illmatic? Everything else is revision on both ends. On top of that Jay has his very spotty/dud albums:vol2,3,bp2, kingdom come, bp3,mchg.Jay isn't as consistent as he's made out to be.

Voted Illmatic only. I've seen people say IWW is a classic but when j listened to it, it was just aight.....

Been a couple of years since I've listened to it, might need to revisit it to see if anything has changed....

Stillmatic has classic songs but isn't a classic album to me....

For real...if we be real with ourselves Nas has only one classic

IWW is pure historical revisionism

Stillmatic...I can see the Stillmatic argument, truthfully I think its more because Blueprint was considered a classic and since Ether > Takeover, ergo the argument goes Stillmatic should be one either...

ehhh not the most convincing
