I think the Fix is a classic but so is Stillmatic. Stillmatic is on the same level in quality, or better, and the impact it had on the culture was much bigger within the culture.

Bigger impact on the culture but quality nah imo.

Where's the weak stuff on The Fix? Track wise. Stillmatic has one or two duds. I don't even think the highs are as good either

This has been the most eye opening of the Classic Discussion threads so far. I think that Illmatic, It Was Written and Stillmatic are CLEAR classics.
Yep. Those 3 are pretty much certified. Even when you take into account Stillmatic fillers, 85% of the album is crack and the impact/influence is undeniable.

Can't even believe there's people questioning It Was Written's GOATness. :wow:

I totally disagree. Yea Stillmatic has a dud or two but its already been established that that does not exclude an album from being a classic. And I believe Stillmatic has tracks on there that rival, or trump, anything on the Fix (Rewind, Second Childhood, One Mic, You're the Man, What Goes Around...). It's a clear classic album.

Well why use GOAT albums as a measuring stick? Not every classic must be GOAT level. But if that's your way of doing things, then I can understand your argument, but I hope you realise you are going against consensus opinion when you don't include albums like Reasonable Doubt.

Lemme ask you this. Is 3 Ft High & Rising on the Illmatic/OB4CL level? Is the album a classic?

Why use goat albums as a measuring stick???? lol.

I read that alot of people in 90's didn't like It Was Written because it was supposedly too commercial. I thought it was a masterpiece the first time I heard it, Nas' storytelling was :mindblown:. Black Girl Lost, Street Dreams, The Message, Suspect, Affirmative Action, and I Gave You Power were my favorites off that album.
Yeah, it wasn't until the net started popping did I hear anything negative about It was Written! That's the album a lot of people really started fukking with Nas, and I know here in Philly in the Summer of '96 every car was playing that shyt!!!!!! Way more than Illmatic, cause when that was out, Ready To Die was the shyt everybody was playing from '94 to '95!

I respect your opinion but respectfully disagree. Anyway more importantly than comparing it to The Fix, I just don't think it holds up in the quality department, compared to albums like It Was Written, which is like a 2nd tier classic to me and on the fringe. Illmatic being a tier 1 of course. But each to their own.

Why use goat albums as a measuring stick???? lol.

Just answer my question. I'm trying to pick at your knowledge.

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
a very honest assessment and he's your GOAT rapper. props!
Yeah, I used to have Stillmatic as a borderline classic. The passage of time has knocked it out for me though. Some of the weaker tracks (Braveheart Party, My Country, Smokin, Got Yourself, and Rule) downgraded it for me. Brehs is fukkin wild even mentioning I am... And Nastradamus as classics. I think God's Son is his most underrated but it ain't no gaddamn classic. SD ain't no fukking classic. Them other albums don't qualify yet per the 10-year rule but they ain't classic either.
