He might be the best example of high class fast food rap..

Its here today and gone tomorrow..

As "technical"as he is, his music has no real longevity...

What about Stan?

You could say this about most 90's/early 2000's classics though. It's not like more then a handful of them really influence music today.

but you realise the question posed is different to a yes/no in terms of LIKING an album. Sure I think that works to an extent with some debatable 'classics', you'll be more swayed by opinion.

but when it comes to an illmatic or something, you're pretty much gonna click yes without 2nd thought, whether you like it or not.
Absolutely. But i think we can all agree that Illmatic is different tier classic than any of Em's albums, and I think the quality of the music (technical skill aside) is iffy at best. So even if we can all agree on the impact, most people will then look at the quality of songs and whether or not they like them. I think most people are low-key doing that here anyway and ignoring impact and everything else.

Just gonna leave this out there.

Eminem was gracious enough to let his biggest fan share a press conference with him. Look at the fan stare deep into Em's eyes with awe and wonder. He goes by the name of Nasir Jones, anybody know the dude and why he managed to get such privileges?

:jbhmm::whoo:

His fav rapper probably :manny:

oh yeah I agree with you completely. Illmatic is another tier altogether.

I still think MMLP just crosses into the territory of certified though, I mean idk I'm confused just thinking about it lol.

As I said, as long as the voting is an honest reflection of peoples' views on his MUSIC and how it holds up quality and longevity and what have you, that's all good.

SINY!!
The Eminem show is probably the closest he will come to a "classic" album. For all the wordplay/lyricism he had displayed on all of his projects.....some of the subject matter hurts. I'm 35, and cringe at times trying to listen to the MMLP.

yeah tbh I think after a while we agreed there was no real definition to go by and the poll results would reflect what is classic or not. I think voting for the most part has been very honest, I just thought when popular/polarising artists come around e.g. Pac/Em, the votes may be biased one way or another and I was hoping to avoid that.
Yeah I'm sure i read this somewhere else, but I think the more popular artists like Nas/Jay/Pac/Em/Big are gonna get tons of votes both in their favor and against them. Comes with being some of the best. I think "lesser" known or less popular artists end up being criticized less and are more likely to have at least 2-3 classics. Not gonna debate anyone's discography, but if as many people voted in that Nas/Jay thread as they did in say that Geto Boys thread, we might have ended up with them not getting any votes. I think less people are familiar with/listen to their music and would be less likely to participate so what you are left with is people who are more likely to be fans of the artists whereas the Big 5 of Nas/Jay/Pac/Em/Big is just as likely to have casual fans too that might skew their numbers one way or another.

I mean sure, but a plurality (majority?) of hip hop fans think Illmatic is the best album ever made, so if you're going to hold Em to that standard, I think every rapper needs to be held to that standard.

True. But no rapper is held to that standard...except Nas :russ:
- Em has a different standard....different lane. Same with Outkast. Same with Tupac. Same with Biggie. If I tried to use Illmatic as the standard of how an album should sound I would be really selling myself short on some great music from people that have their own lanes. And this isn't just for illmatic. I think if the same could be said if we were comparing lots of albums to those GOAT albums as the standard for what makes a "classic"
