Also, pinning issues with crime occurring during a global pandemic that has caused economic turmoil for people and forced everyone into lockdowns on a slogan was something police tried, media fermented, and enough people will fall for that I do think Defund the Police has now been damaged as a concept. Which really sucks, because it's still a great idea if you actually pay attention to what's being proposed under the label.
The slogan has been damaged but the policy will have to happen.

CAHOOTS used the same concept to a lot of success (I believe around Portland) and was starting to get pilots in other cities. I think it's too soon to know much about the pilots, especially after the pandemic limited things. I'm hoping we'll get solid follow-ups about how expanding that one went.

Above the fray.
@storyteller ,

Did you really compare a presidential election to a ballot question vote in a city that's 50 square miles? You don't think that's a bad faith argument?

People living in these areas are human beings, not guinea pigs for experiments for activists,academics, and politicians.

Way you casually disregarded their decisions points to you not caring about their safety, much less their ability to make the best decisions regarding that safety.

You still haven't said shyt about the policy dikkhead. Save the faux-concern for when you can actually address how this policy-change would have actually endangered anybody. It wasn't getting rid of police in their entirety.

You are asking for something from someone who is genuinely not as well versed on this topic like he thinks. And he is an anti-poor people. It's a waste of time.

dikkhead?

Deflections and insults.

The matter was decided by the voters of that city. You might want to check which communities voted against it. Tangential pissing matches online have NO bearing on that. Nor will they factor when other cities slowly roll back defund measures.

====
I track police / criminal justice reform measures. On a state and local level, some in my tristate area have passed. My state has enacted actual bail reform, and the AG has put new police reform measures in place. I think that these are practical ways to address issues long term. Evaluated and revised in the future, and when the come up for local votes.

Give Black people voting on local issues respect that they understand and know what's best for public safety. Please.

The problem is people don’t actually care. They don’t want actual change in policing :yeshrug:

Americans are bootlicking scum. Always will be too, Black Death is not only welcomed but encouraged even by black people
People actually care about criminals that should be locked up that are terrorizing communities on a daily not just caring when an officer shoots a black person

where was that a slogan and how has its outcome been any different than defund?
Its been around since we all been alive, and I remember it prominently after Rodney King beating.

Instead the police have moved from clubbing people, to sodomizing people to now full-on murder.

i've never seen it as a slogan, i've seen police reform as a concept...but that's neither here or there. but how has defund done anything to change the bolded? seems they had the same outcome - in fact, they have, cope been shooting black people for forever. if anything has been making a slight dent in changing things, i mean very slight, it's cell phone cameras & the ability to put footage on and organize via the internet

You are talking based on semantics. I am saying we have had "police reform" policies since at least Rodney King and it has led to people getting murdered by the police.

"Police reform" doesn't work. We need to reimagine law enforcement and the criminal justice system because you cannot reform what is broken.

edit: I should not have said police reform slogan, but that wasn't the point I was making. I should have been clearer. My apologies.

I said earlier to brace for the juelzing and revisionism.

Citizens and lawmakers are questioning and/or rolling back the measures in their local areas. Information about the demographics in these districts and how the votes went are available. We can expect this scenario to play out a few times in the coming year.

Most people would be able to accept these realities. When the "bu bu bu buts" come out, you're dealing with a person who can't acknowledge reality.

But like Jada said onstage recently "You don't gotta like it, but it is what it is"

Pages of rants, plea copping, etc will change NOTHING about the vote results.
