I'm always going to ride or die for Avatar. Yeah, the story is generic, but literally no other movie I've ever seen has been a better theater experience. the 3D is absolutely fukking mind blowing, there's a reason it's the highest grossing movie ever. most the people I've talked to who didn't like it don't like 3D. It's a shame home-3D never took off so it's not easy to experience the movie in that format again.
I really enjoyed Avatar when I saw it in the theater. It wasn’t that great a movie, but that is how you do 3D. It was like going into virtual reality how Cameron took you into that world.

I feel like a lot of people in here have literally only watched Nolan's blockbusters. Their critiques of his movies don't even make sense.

Watch at least one out of Momento, Insomnia, or The Prestige before you type Nolan out as making "one kind" of movie. Those combined with bigger flicks like The Dark Knight and Inception (which themselves aren't really anything alike) made him my favorite director for a while. Though I'll admit that The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, and Dunkirk disappointed me.

And anyone who thinks the plot of a Nolan movie doesn't make sense - that's on you, not him. Not one of his movies is "incoherent". :mjlol:

Also, people calling Avatar a classic. :picard:

I feel like the last few movies Nolan has done have been mis-marketed as a film on the level of a TDK and Inception when they’re really not that and ultimately leads to wack ass comps like this thread and folks walking out of theaters after the film like “What did I just watch? :dwillhuh:

marketing isn't really the problem

standalone - some stuff is just needed to be reeled in for its own sake

and its obvious he's not losing his spark or anything. there's awesome scenes in all his stuff. start to finish though?

nolan vs denis makes more sense.

Fair enough. I’ll always feel that way about the PR and his films. I do love the fact that he doesn’t reveal too much in his trailers. The mystique factor is a draw, I just hope the casual moviegoer knows what they’re getting into.

His latest film needed to be able to breathe badly it felt like. Beautiful visuals, but damn. I don’t know why, but as I was watching it, it felt like someone had a list of scenes and were just checking things one by one off the list as the story unfolded. Never got a chance to let those natural human moments shine.
