No one really seems to know why Hitler didn't finish the British off at Dunkirk. Apparently he was worried his German tanks would get destroyed around Dunkirk.

yea, there is no consensus answer of why it played out like it did.
going off a history channel documentary I saw on this and a little reading afterwards German forces had been fighting for like two-three weeks straight and Gerd von Rundstedt, a general on the ground asked for a halt to rest the troops, and Hitler ok'd it.
