Average is the new trash bruh. This film is going to flop or barely recover it's budget.

They're going to need to put every positive review from major publications in the extra large font during the commercial trailer to trick people into seeing this trash

I loved it. Just got back from IMAX in Mahatten on this raining Thursday. But I have to be honest it was more "Homages" than Nolan himself. The main thing that was Nolan is of course he always tries to grounds things into reality. But If I broke it down:

ACT 1 and 2

Act 3:

But I loved the movie. It was like 60% Space and 40% Earth. It did get Dramatic but Emotion is something Nolan's films in general aren't the greatest at so it worked here. Again, the whole movie felt like a Love letter to Spielberg and Kubrick. But I liked the plot a lot. You also felt the emotion in the film with Matthew and the Daughter. The cast did fantastic. As for the scientific stuff. It's a movie not a documentary. The Visuals were amazing, Loved the space journey. The multiple Planets. The Wormhole and Blackhole sequences were amazing. The movie was great, I don't know what the critics are talking about. Love the twist and turns of the plot too. Nolan knocked it out the park. Here's what I said on the 1st page of this thread almost 2 years ago when the news broke:

Nolan. Sci-Fi. Space. I'm there. Can't wait. I'm glad he's staying in Sci-Fi, this is his true genre after "Inception".

Nolan need to stay put in Science Fiction.

Completely agree this....just back from a viewing and was blown away - not perfect, but I don't think good movies should be.

There were definetly parts when I considered whether the route Nolan took was the right one, but essentially, you have to sit back and let the movie guide you and take its course - withdraw expectations and accept the message the director is portraying. For me, it was rightfully a mix between science, fantasy and exploration into humanity - which meant the overall picture had a lasting affect on me on multiple levels. Personally, going the whole way for one direction (most people who are against the movie, opt for the science route), would remove the emotional appeal and detract from Nolan's vision, creativity and imagination as a film maker.

I think this will definetly play better over time, mostly because viewers will be able to accept parts of the film for what they were, not what they should be. For example, the tussle with Matt Damon's character could have further allusions to struggling with a lack of humanity after prolonged periods of isolation, or conversley, a regained sense of humanity (selfishness, shame) when humans are present - showing the chaos we create with one another due to personal ideologies, conquests or so on. Watching it the first time, you just want this scene to pass and you want them to find a new planet, but I think these are themes that are worth exploring and add new dimensions to the story-telling beyond the scientific scope of the movie. The 'twist' for me was insane. It was imaginative and thoughtful and at that point, I was happy the film didn't go the route I expected it to go, and took it for what it was.

Execution wise, the huge shift in the movie could have been controlled better to allow audiences to be more susceptible for the change in pace, and thought process. At parts it seemed like straight scientific exploration into space travel, and other times, a movie based around family - there could have been many movies made from this, but he made all of them in one picture. This means it can feel slightly clunky and disjointed, but I definetly feel that is purposely done. Nolan likes to challenge the audience and I don't he is conceding by trying to paint bigger pictures than just a straight science-based film, hes just being ambitious. I think, while not perfect, he just about pulled it off, and leaving the theatre I was in awe.

P.S. for people who are slightly dense like me and didn't get some of the science based stuff that occured towards the end, Wikipedia actually does a great job summarising the plot!

I liked it, but I wanted to love it.

The scope of this film was awesome, was well acted, but it could've been shorter without losing anything, had plot holes and some cheesiness. All things considered, I don't regret dropping my cash on it.

Okay, here goes...

But none of that lives up to the madness of her brother and his family. Why was he such a hard-ass about Murph trying to get his wife and son help so they wouldn't die of the dust? Why indeed build him up as if he's going to murder her for setting his crops on fire if nothing's gonna come from it? Matter of fact, when Murph hugs him and smiles and says she has found out the truth about their father, why does he still have the psycho stare going on? And why does it cut away there and we never see him again? At least the other characters serve a purpose in the plot, and that's why I can tolerate it, but everything involving her brother was just a complete and utter mess.

well i can easily answer the bold part, when Cooper sees his daughter at the old age in the bed, she pretty much says everyone thought she was crazy. were basically supposed to assume they put her up in a mental hospital until they finally believed her stories. you can even see it when she tells her brother its him hes the ghost, and she burned down his crops, his look is supposed to infer that his sister just lost her mind. i took that away from it anyway

Just got back from seeing it. TOTALLY AMAZED. And yet, I can understand why some would feel some kind of way with the 3rd act. It's either you fukk with it or you don't but this film is so awestruck-fuccking mind blowing that I could careless of any rationale of the 3rd act, it worked for me. Much better than any OTHER hardcore science fiction film, 2001 included which its 3rd had MAKES zero logic, at least this one was on some levels of comprehension.
