Gonna be honest, I can't name a single song of hers. A true pop star will have their music known even by living-under-a-rock :flabbynsick: nikkas like me. I don't even know what Dua Lipa looks like but I can name several of her songs because she's a mega pop star that gets play everywhere. Chloe not on that kind of level.

Yea but if you have a huge hit song it’ll be called a pop song anyway.

its not fair to these ladies.

These girls are talented, they came up writing, producing, arranging all their songs. probably still heavily invested in their material today.

If they are making pop music, why should they auto classified as r & b and miss out on money when a white female duo on their level would be getting that next taylor swift pop bag.

she doesn't like it because it's traditionally a genre used to put all black music acts in, regardless of the stylistic elements the said performer has been influenced by and mimics. it's just a label created by critics a long time ago to label black music.

what it does is limit access to markets and audiences that might appreciate her stylings more but sometimes being directly labeled as such will cut you off as people in the industry move in an automated manner.

it's not the association with blackness that's her problem, she's just disappointed with what most non artists accept at some point; people are racist regardless of the art you create. they will attempt to shape your story without much understanding.

Every last one of Michael Jackson's albums was an R&B album. He was the King of Pop because his R&B albums were so good, everyone listened to them (popular). Make good music, get "Pop" status. :yeshrug:
Even MJ sprinkled other genres in his music such as Beat It and Dirty Diana

Imagine those winning an R&B award :heh:thing is, Mike transcended genres. Chloe — does not so her complaint is pointless
