I'm going to see it for the simple fact that its NOT going to be Menace II Society 2
Just saw the trailer yesterday and the thing that stood out to me most was how this gonna be Chicago when nobody got dreads
Song at the end was cool tho. Was that durk

I get that, and I'm sure he's well aware and intends to get a message across, but this has no appeal to the audience he needs to reach. It appeals to snobs looking tell everyone how much they know about Greek theater. And why isn't this meant for satire? You really think spike Lee don't see the killing of young black people as an important issue? You think the issue is him making mockery of this? Cmon fam, this is the same guy who did a movie on new Orleans exposing people purposely blowing up the dams. If you don't allow the media to educate you on what chicago is, and you actually talk to the people or live there like I do, you would realize a satire with a plethora of truth permeating the story lines is exactly what is needed.
If spike exposes the 50 people being shot weekly but no names of who got shot and never any arrest, and the black market of body parts being sold between chicago and Detroit, that makes this all better.
Just from this thread isn't doing satire doing more to push those closest to the issue at examination? The violence isn't a joke but it also isn't close to stopping. So then what treatment does this epidemic deserve?I understand that he 'may' be doing this to bring awareness to the cause in his own way, and that no, a 'Chiraq' like 'Menace' would be a bad look....and I realize Spike is probably not the director for this, but why not a 'Beasts Of No Nation' stye movie.....beautiful and moving, realistic and well acted.... but deeply repulsive and ugly, has a message without glorifying violence or shying away from it....or beating you over the head with it?
Thats how I see a Chicago movie, beautiful cinematagraphy, authentic performances, violent and nihlistic, but not weighed down in this side or that side of the conflict....just hints of GD or OTF or whatever, show the humanity and bleakness of the dead and their killers.....
Don't make a fukking moulin rouge looking satire....maybe in 15 years, if things have improved, but not now....when kids getting strays in the head is a WEEKLY read, and dozens are getting killed and shot every week.
elaborateSaw the screening a while back. Id highly recommend it
