You don't watch the news if you don't know that the protests have been going on for months. You couldn't get away from it if you read and watch the cable networks.

I'm calling bullshyt on this. This ain't the old days of everybody watching the news and getting ALL the information. A lot of people get filtered news only about the issues they have an interest in. The best comparison would be how most basketball only fans would have a base knowledge of the other sports just by sitting through sportscenter or local news shows and seeing highlights of all the other sports as they waited for the basketball highlights they want to see. Now there's NBATV or instagram/twitter/youtube channels dedicated to only basketball highlights so now a hardcore basketball fan probably couldn't even name 5 baseball or hockey players. I see news the same way. If you're only interested in US politics or US news then their is plenty of ways to get that news without hearing anything of world politics. Also it's a case of information overload so that we filter out information that doesn't immediately affect us.

Not to mention that there is a wide gap between knowing that an event is occurring and actually being informed enough on said event to speak on it. I always bytch about people's need to give an opinion on shyt they know nothing about. In this case I have no problem with silence from athletes/coaches if they do not have indepth knowledge on the issue.

Breh I work in china....shyt is wild as hell. Amazing how the government and country loves capitalism but then out the other side of its mouth says its pro china.

Also amazing how the censorship is. Folks never discuss politics in the open and how even when you watch the news and live shows shyt be on like a 40 second delay.

I always bring up the story how the first week I was there. I was watching CNN in a restaurant and there were like 7 tvs on CNN. They get ready to do a segment on bootleg clothes out of china and all the tvs go black for like 15 minutes.

I ask a american coworkers whats up and he is like man china don't play...if someone talking bad about them they gonna censor that shyt pronto.

I'm always baffled at how Chinese people living in China know that their government is supremely corrupt and don't speak on it openly but still represent their country so hard henever they're under verbal attack. Tbh i didn't even know the censorship was that bad, I try to stay out the place, maybe quick trips across the border to Shenzhen once in a blue moon. Right now though, fukk that.
