I think the NBA “needs” China because theyve already built projections around their market. The NBA don’t need China... I mean yeah they don’t mind taking their money but China ain’t the end all be all for the NBA
What do you mean "they don't care"? They don't care about a disgruntled population and potential revolution? That's almost certainly their #1 concern. There are only two reasons they've let the NBA have such a big presence in China at all - to fill their pockets and to pacify the population. And that second reason might actually be bigger than the first.
Kicking a sports league out of the country doesn't make China look strong. It makes them look petty. And you're right, they're frightened to back down but they're also frightened that the NBA will leave. Both options are L's for them. From the beginning they really thought the NBA would back down and punish/condemn Morey, and it came damn close to happening, but once Silver grew a spine the Chinese were shook.
I think some of y'all overestimate how much power China has. Countries who are gripping really, really tightly to control their entire population tend to do so because they're terrified that if they let up they'll lose everything. China's greatest fear is a disgruntled population loses faith in the government to maintain their standard of living and fuels separatist movements that buzz around almost every border province in the country. Take away the NBA and you're one step closer to disgruntled. shyt like this has happened in history with governments even more brutal than the Chinese.
Bro The NBA is already developing NBA Africa and the commissioner already looking in the the India market.. again China ain’t the end all be all for the NBA..I think the NBA “needs” China because theyve already built projections around their market.
Either the NBA should be willing to change course or continue to prostrate themselves Chinese. But to say that China “needs” the NBA is outright false.
China is a necessary country in the desire for the NBA to be as global if not more so than soccer. The NBA don’t need China... I mean yeah they don’t mind taking their money but China ain’t the end all be all for the NBA
Dog...NBA Africa...my family is African. Tell me a company that has said “fukk the Chinese market! We got Africa!”Bro The NBA is already developing NBA Africa and the commissioner already looking in the the India market.. again China ain’t the end all be all for the NBA..
NBA got a 1.5 Billion deal with China to broadcast games.. How much is the deal with the Networks here in the US? It’s about the same about of money.
You don’t think they need that 4 billion revenue? Doesn’t that correlate to the salary cap increasing every year ?The NBA don’t need China... I mean yeah they don’t mind taking their money but China ain’t the end all be all for the NBA

While I agree with your overall message, I think the Chinese population/opposition have more to worry about than not being able to see NBA games

India is a market that nobody has ever truly been able to figure out. It’s cricket country. Other than individual sports like golf and tennis, nothing seems to stick. India and Africa isn’t a trade off for possibly losing China. It was supposed to add on to it and they could claim the other side of the globe.Bro The NBA is already developing NBA Africa and the commissioner already looking in the the India market.. again China ain’t the end all be all for the NBA..

HALF A BILLION Chinese people are living middle-class lives right now. And with purchasing power differences the Chinese middle class isn't all that far off of the American middle class anymore. You think of Chinese people as suffering but a ton of them are living fresh. They don't have freedom but they have a lot of toys. It's not a poor country at all, and it's not like the government arrests/tortures every third person on the street.This.
They can figure out the sports market but they been exploited i other industrial markets. Specifically graphic design in relations to the built environment. But when it comes to losers and athletic market, it’s a lost cause in relations to IndiaIndia is a market that nobody has ever truly been able to figure out. It’s cricket country. The Chinese government has been trying to run a grand bargain with its people for the last four decades. "We'll supercharge the economy and let you have nice things, and in response you'll submit to very strict control over your privacy and politics/religion and we get to stay in charge without protest."
That bargain works so long as the perceived benefits of the Chinese economy are greater than the perceived costs of giving the Communist Party so much control over the country and their lives. In the south and the west of the country especially, there is enough anti-government sentiment that it would not take a ton to tip the balance.
I ain't saying that losing the NBA is the tipping point. But it's one step in that direction. It's one more reason that some people will think, "All this control the party has is some bullshyt."
Look at what happened when Justinian cancelled the chariot races. All-out rioting across Constantinople that turned into a full-on revolution to overthrow the government. And you can't tell me that the subjects of the Byzantine Empire didn't have other shyt to worry about. But for some people fukking with their sports is fukking with their lives.
