The extradition issue is about their last bastion of autonomy. That guy was a Hong Kong citizen, who killed his gf in Taiwan. So what would have been an extradition case between HK and Taiwan, was seen as a political move from the mainland on these two. Can't say they were wrong.
What's come to head is the inevitability of Hong Kong to recognize they will no longer be able to enjoy a lot of freedoms. Whether or not they're used to a way of life, its no secret that they were probably never going to accept the full control from the mainland. HK was once the largest economic power in the region after Tokyo, and slowly China has moved that over to Shanghai. They've been very strategic with it all.
For all the crap we talk about how the Chinese are taking over where- South America and Africa. The NBA is much more to lose. But this very hypocritical. They can choose to apologize, but they'll suffer for it in the states.
