Why would someone knowledgeable about world events speak out in favor of human rights and against police oppression and violence?

Hong Kong is one of the most united protest movements in the world right now. If you are at all in favor of the idea that a people should be able to stand up against an oppressive government and you actually want to see that idea work, Hong Kong is where it's at right now.
what exactly does tweeting that do?

Its funny how people change stances based on whats popular with whatever group they claim.

A few years ago liberals were against intervening in other countries business...
...now folks think its morally right to be the worlds police.

Same folks wanting to stand w/ HK are the same ones that think Trump shouldnt start the trade war.

Is it Oochie Wally or One Mic?

The situation is complex.
Imagine if Alaska said they wanted to separate and stop paying taxes to the mainland....how would that go over here?

Lets not forget...the reason HK is the way it is now is because it was a colony...not for any good reason.

Again...not saying I agree w/ China (ive been there on two separate occasions)...but lets be real...the shyt is not our business.

This is straight out south park lol.

Also China is extreme totalitarian capitalism.

I haven't watched in years but i caught the episode the other night where he goes to China to sell his pot farm. The censorship for dollars argument is all too true. fukk China and fukk appeasing their leadership.

So in your opinion an individual showing solidarity too protesters in another country is the same as the government sending in the military in to violently overthrow another government?

Because that is the false equivalence you're making here and it is really dumb

Ya'll should read this tweet thread

China’s regulations and processes for approving foreign films reflect the Chinese Communist Party’s position that art, including film, is a method of social control. As a result of these regulations, Hollywood filmmakers are required to cut out any scenes, dialogue, and themes that may be perceived as a slight to the Chinese government. With an eye toward distribution in China, American filmmakers increasingly edit films in anticipation of Chinese censors’ many potential sensitivities.

sheesh, hollywood never mentions this though, just sacrifice their art to collect those checks

they have plenty to say on matters that make them seem 'woke' though

Because it is about "how China runs their government" in practice, and someone as informed as yourself should be over there educating us lay people on how we know so little compared to your high scholarship in this field:comeon:

Saying ‘it is what it is’ - that’s the exact issue with the NBA’s response here. They are shilling for China’s $$ while turning a blind eye to the situation at hand. And Silver has constantly said this is a progressive league and he stands by his employees taking political stands. Now we know how Silver would have operated if NBA players took a knee during the anthem and it effected the bottom line, luckily for him the NBA already has language outlawing players/coaches talking a knee:

NBA proving they are no better than the NFL when it comes to this shyt. This is bad looks for Silver, and the league is rightfully getting roasted for the response
Just read up on the situation and its a touchy subject. Its about the proposed Extradition Bill. It started when a 19 year old killed his pregnant girlfriend in Taiwan but went to Hong Kong and stayed there even admitted his crimes but the mainland(China) couldn't transfer him to Beijing to bring him to trial. This is all about being able to move criminals or wanted people to and from Hong Kong/Taiwan/Mainland easily. But of course everyone in HK thinks this could bleed into something else like snatching up a journalist/artist/businessman up if they do or say anything bad about the mainland. And the people in HK don't like the judicial system in the Mainland. The bill hasn't passed yet though as far as I know.

Hong Kong is simply used to a different/western style way of life. They'll always be protest in that city til the day it dies. They protest over everything. This is just the latest one and a big one btw. They knew once the mainland got the colony back from the British they'd have to sacrifice some shyt. I think folks are reacting off the images of an actual protest - baton sticks, tear gas, bottles thrown, marches, etc --than what's actually at stake. Not caping for either side cause at the end of the day I'm all about the welfare of my black brehs and brehettes.
