There has to be a multi faceted approach. Some people just don’t belong in society and need to be in prison. There also needs to be jobs and opportunities for everyone else. There needs to be a focus on mental health. Drugs need to be decriminalized or legalized. Schools need to be places the youth feel safe, they’re getting guidance, and their minds and interests are being cultivated. Without the jobs and opportunity, you’re just continuing the cycle, because as you’re putting away those who are harmful to the community, others are just filling that void. So that void has to be filled with something else. That’s also why defunding the police is important. It’s not getting rid of them, but it’s taking what they would spend for military equipment, and distributing that money to help the community. Like helping those who want to open businesses.

I love all of this but it starts at home. Let be honest...most kids who are a$$holes or problem kids in school or outside have a problem at home. These parents and grandparents aren't shyt. Gangs are 4/5 generation deep now..especially with all these babies having babies.

I love the build the block idea but if they can't control their kids or people in their community. It doesn't matter how nice the neighborhood becomes if the people still do fukk shyt and don't want to deal with their trauma. It be another West Atlanta when project dwellers flooded East Point, College Park, Fairburn, Douglasville, Union City.

They all have PTSD

:francis:Say cheese aren't a news source but it's looking bad. They're saying nearly all victims were black.

Something must be done about this but there's too much deflection in this damn thread.

"Something must be done..."
There are a ton of layers to this, but I'll just say, that maybe... JUST maybe, what is happening is by design?
:jbhmm:

There is no incentive for the violence to stop, because that resolution is something that cannot happen overnight and will take decades and generations to change. AND the people with the economic impact and funds to dig into the fundamental problems do not give a fukk.

With all of these major corporations and business talking about they want to create change and have a real impact on black people, now's the time for initiatives and plans to be put in place for real investment into these hot areas.

How do you expect something to change when the people falling victim to this and doing this have no hope and their community's resources are piss poor?

right cause Chicago music didn’t make a big splash in 2011 by dudes rapping about killing other black men & bragging about it

As long as dudes like y’all continue to shift blame and put your head in the sand this shyt will continue

so hundreds of thousands of illegal
firearms just magically appear on the
streets of Chicago?

Eighteen people were killed in Chicago in a 24-hour span last month — the deadliest day in the Windy City in roughly six decades, according to a report.

The slayings — including a high school student and a college freshman who aspired to become a correctional officer — occurred on May 31 as the city grappled with ongoing civil unrest in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis police custody, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The grim tally made May 31 the single most violent day Chicago has endured in roughly 60 years, according to data provided to the newspaper by the University of Chicago Crime Lab.

“We’ve never seen anything like it, at all,” the crime lab’s senior research director, Max Kapustin, told the newspaper. “I don’t even know how to put it into context. It’s beyond anything that we’ve ever seen before.”

Data from the lab does not pre-date 1961, but the next-highest single-day murder total in Chicago was on Aug. 4, 1991, when 13 Chicagoans died in homicides, according to the report.

When the entire weekend is taken into context, 25 people were killed citywide from late May 29 through May 31, while another 85 people were hurt by gunfire, the Sun-Times reports, making it the most violent weekend in modern Chicago history.

While citing an “unprecedented” level of activity within the past week, a Chicago police spokesman said detectives were investigating several incidents and working to determine motives.

I'm not from Chicago, I don't think people care about if it's done by design but they want to see quick results.

Rioting and looting inflated the numbers. If someone wanted to smoke someone, the last 2 weekends were the times to do it.
:yeshrug:
This. Came across an article where that cac priest said numerous people in the community were coming to him saying police was nowhere to be found. They took their ball and went home basically :francis:

See...why are we as a community not protesting this bullshyt?

When was the last time we had national protests and outrage over black/black crime?
How do you protest gangbangers?:stopitslime:

You gonna stop patronizing their business?:stopitslime:

You're gonna defund their department?:stopitslime:

We do put focus on it. All the time. And it's really our main focus.

We have all sorts of programs to help prevent it. We have people constantly fighting to get funding to give black youth more opportunities.

Maybe it's not enough and we could do more, but it's definitely way more energy than what we put into police brutality.

The focus on police literally only ever happens when they murder one of us and the officer isn't held accountable.

I don't know why everyone's running with the narrative that we somehow don't do anything or care about black on black crime just because we protest the police every now and then.

Dude, Chicago literally has people like Father Pflager & The Interrupters who spend their entire lives fighting gun violence.

Don't listen to these c00ns on their "What about Chicago?" bullshyt.:comeon:

cops are putting in work
killing black people.

fukking inept :comeon:

Dude, the killers know each other.

Everybody in the hood knows who's killing who.

You guys are acting like random people are dying.

Most of the time it's folks who had beef with somebody or their family members.

Hell, dudes go on Twitter bragging about it afterwards 1/2 the time now.

Even some of those c00n ass drill rappers were doing it:francis:

Have national anti-violence marches.

Have a big ass million-man type march right in Chicago. Right in the fukking south side hoods. Dhow solidarity and strength against those fukkers.

Gun exchange programs like they did in Family Matters.

And if that doesn’t work...implore the feds to come in and keep order... strict curfews. HARSH penalties for gun charges (life in prison, I don’t give a fukk), death penalty for any murder committed. I’m basically talking about local martial law. Life in prison for any gang affiliation. Let them kill each other in jail away from innocent civilians. fukk them.
