I spent over a year away from chess (just by circumstance i.e. lack of competition, boredom etc.) but I keep getting sucked back into it.

For some of the more 'advanced' players, what kind of openings are you using when playing white and black? What do you have to counter queen pawn opening or king pawn opening? As white, what's your preferred opening move? I wanna pick the brain of some players here.

Learn all the major ones etc just to get an idea of how to respond to it's situations. Whether it's an opening you like or not. Just to get the idea of what it's trying to accomplish and where. And then when you are in scenarios you can recognize ideas and scope if they can work or what'll work against you.
So I'd check out french. Caro Khan, the Indian defenses offenses and fianchettos, Sicilian, queen's gambit. Scandanavian, Alekhine, then flank attacks, counter gambits in the middle and what they open up. Etc
